There are certain conversations that parents are supposed to have with their children while growing up, even if they can be potentially awkward. However, the necessity of these conversations might not make it any easier to initiate them. For parents struggling with the same, a mom has a bit of brilliant advice. Dr. Meghan Elizabeth Beach Martin–who goes by @beachgem10 on TikTok–shared how parents can take some of the awkwardness out of these conversations and make it easier for themselves and their kids. Many parents on the internet are thankful for it.

"Those awkward but also really important conversations that you need to have with your kids, the birds and the bees, protection, drugs, all of that stuff, have those conversations in the car," the mom explained. "Hear me out. Probably the best piece of parenting advice that I received was from my best friend, who happens to be @teawiththeteach." The woman added, "She has these potentially awkward conversations in the car. Now, it's brilliant. You have your hands on the wheel, you are looking straight ahead. You do not have to be making eye contact with anyone talking about the birds and bees and the parts and the drugs or whatever the conversation is about that day."

"You also have a captive audience that is literally seat-belted in behind you. Again, they don't have to look at you in the face. They can engage or not engage as much as they want," the mom pointed out. "But they are in the car and potentially have to hear what you are saying. It also makes it not that big of a deal because you ride in the car every day." She further explained, "You are not making it this big experience that you had to, like, take time out of your day to sit down. Like we are just riding in the car. We are just talking; it is not a big deal." The woman emphasized how the kids would see such topics as things that can be talked about.

"The last couple of years, I have been having these discussions, especially with my older kids and now the car has become kind of a safe place. Where if they have something they want to ask, if they want to talk about something, the car is a great place to do it," the mom revealed. "I am now starting to have these conversations with my younger kids and want to emphasize how important it is to talk about these issues early. So that when you get to that older teen, pre-teen time, it's not the first time you are hearing about." She admitted, "I don't know anyone who necessarily looks forward to having these conversations, but doing it in the car takes some of that pressure and weirdness out of it."

People appreciated the efforts by the mom and express their views in the comments. @jessicacarlson44 wrote, "I like starting the conversations really young because they don't understand what awkward is yet. No filter is the best." @peppermintpc77 commented, "Yes, my oldest is 26 and I still have big conversations with him in the car. At that age, I wait until we are on the interstate so he can't jump out." @bossrn6 remarked, "I did this. Add an ice cream cone for something enjoyable for the brain to connect to. My boys would ask for ice cream drives when they had something serious they wanted to discuss."
