'Blues are very common in bathing suit color and I think that [fuels] the frustration for a lot of professionals,' said Scarnati.

Summers are just a few months away. And during that time, kids love to be in the swimming pool. Usually playing with friends or enjoying the time together. However, a mother has a warning for parents and that is not to buy blue swimsuits for their children. Nikki Scarnati, a mom, in a TikTok video, explains why she asks parents to avoid blue swimsuits. "This is not a regular bathing suit my daughter wears on a regular basis. I bought it on clearance specifically for this example for parents who wanted to learn," she says while showing her daughter swimming in a pool in a blue swimsuit.

"Look how difficult it is to see her under the water -- and this is in calm water," Scarnati continued. "This is not with a whole bunch of other kids playing, splashing around, and having a good time. Even look in the sunlight, look how difficult it is to see her with that bathing suit on 'cause it's the same color as our environment. So, do not buy a blue bathing suit guys." The video went viral with more than 6 million views. It is captioned, "Just don't do it! Why think about which bathing suits for the splash pad? Just buy bright ones!!" Many on TikTok found the mom's advice extremely helpful. @coiya43 commented, "That’s crazy, I would have never even thought about it, wow." @jess_ _ bill wrote, "I’m a former lifeguard and this is absolutely right! Any shade of blue is difficult to see, and so is any pastel light color in general."

@yanaboo expressed, "Reds/pinks/oranges and yellows seriously never thought about this." @trainergal shared, "would have NEVER thought of this. This new mom thanks you!" @dutchess_themillionaire mentioned, "Never in a million years would I have thought of this... Thank you, even with my brown skin kids, this advice is the best. Thank you." @bridget1203 commented, "Never thought buying that bright yellow bathing suit would turn out to be a smart choice."

Scarnati is from Florida. She specializes in teaching children between 6 months and 6 years old. She told Good Morning America that she learned this piece of advice from her family while growing up. "My mom had three kids, so she wanted us to be the easiest to spot because we were always in different places at one time. But as I've gotten into the teaching role and working with students, I discovered it wasn't as widely known as I thought it was," Scarnati said.

"In the industry, it's kind of widely known that blue bathing suits are problematic in pools and open water. So it was just one of the many things that I could help educate parents on that would be applicable to really everyone," she said. The mom shared that she has noticed that blue swimsuits are widely available and easy to find. "Blues are very common in bathing suit color and I think that [fuels] the frustration for a lot of professionals that work with children, especially in a pool setting," Scarnati said.

She hopes that her video will help with preventing future drowning deaths. "At the end of the day, drowning is the No. 1 cause of death in children under 4 and the second in children 5 to 12, so if I can give as many tips as possible to parents to help them make better decisions … just to help lower drowning statistics a little bit, then I've done my job," she said.
