An Arizona mom explained why couples should brag about each other in front of their kids, creating a positive relationship model.
To maintain a healthy relationship, couples often see each other as a source of strength. There’s nothing wrong with flaunting each other’s qualities, especially in front of kids. Jackie Kelley (@stayathomejackie on Instagram), an Arizona mom, advocates for constantly bragging about her spouse to strengthen family ties. The mother on a mission to “raise good humans,” opened up about being proudly “obsessed” with her “total bada** husband.” In her video, Kelley also revealed a surefire way to ensure her children celebrate the couple’s strong bond.
“If you're looking for a surefire way to make sure your children know that you and your spouse are absolutely obsessed with each other,” Jackie remarked, sharing advice with her 74.2K followers. She emphasized the importance of “bragging about your spouse to your kids,” noting that this approach contrasts with traditional parenting styles. Jackie explained how this positive behavior reinforces each person’s value in a healthy relationship. “If you grew up in a dysfunctional household, it's like the opposite of what your parents used to do,” she said, mentioning a few examples.
“Like when your dad used to say, ‘Whoop, looks like your mother's making us late for church again,’ or when your mom would say, ‘Clearly, we aren't a priority to your father,’” the video creator added. Jackie, however, saw herself and her husband as each other’s “ultimate hype people.” She shared how she frequently reminds her kids about their father’s greatness. “Regularly, I will ask my boys, ‘Did you know that you have the best dad in the entire world?’” she said in the nearly one-minute video. For Jackie, it is important for her children to understand that their dad stood out from the many “subpar dads.”
Jackie’s husband reciprocated the same with their kids. The video creator shared, “He'll say something like, ‘It was so kind that your mom made sure you had clean sheets for tonight.' That's if and when someone pees the bed.” Jackie herself occasionally made similar efforts to brag in front of the kids, complimenting her spouse for taking time off work to spend quality family time. “I'll say, 'Isn’t it so cool that daddy took off work early so we could be here with us today?'” she shared. According to Jackie, these caring gestures between partners helped her show the kids her admiration for their dad and vice versa.
“It sets an example for my kids of how to recognize people for their awesomeness,” the video creator said, adding that her children recognize how much effort both she and her husband put into their relationship. Jackie highlighted the sacrifices they make every day for each other, suggesting, “The bonus is that it allows my husband and me to feel really appreciated.” She concluded by calling her husband “the hottest man on earth,” which sparked a variety of reactions among her followers. @mooseontheroad commented, “I once said to my husband as he was leaving for work, 'Bye, we love you!' And my son repeated it and says it often as dad goes somewhere by himself.” “They need to see the healthy and functional relationships that we didn’t see as children so they can make healthy choices in their own future relationships,” @animatedsarac emphasized.
