A mom spills the beans about her family's cute Christmas tradition, where each one of them has a different name on their stocking.
Each family has their own set of traditions during the holidays. It can range from decorating trees to giving gifts to each other. A mom (@poppy_and_kaylee on TikTok) shared a viral video explaining how her family has a unique naming tradition for Christmas. The video has gained 1.2 million views and 1451 comments on the social media site. The woman holds up all the stockings that her family has with different names.
She reads out the names, saying, "Brian, Kelsey, Brian, Dan and Debbie." The woman explains how this is her family's Christmas theme and rhetorically asks viewers, "Doesn't everyone have a Christmas name?" It turns out the stockings had quite a backstory to them. She holds up the stockings containing the names Dan and Debbie, highlighting how these are two important names in the story. The woman shares that they were a couple who bought these exact stockings from Pottery Barn approximately 9 or 10 years back.
The woman says, "For some reason, they decided they did not want their stockings, so they returned them to Pottery Barn." These stockings were then sold to a discount store for some reason that the woman did not know about. Sometime later, the woman and her husband, who were very poor at the time, walked into the store and loved the gorgeous stockings. At the time, they had just welcomed their first child, but they both knew that they wanted two more kids, so they bought a total of 5 stockings for their future family.
She shares how the family originally intended to take out the embroidery and make the stockings plain. However, the family just never got around to doing that and would probably never do it in the future as well. She concludes by saying, "It has now just become an inside joke that on Christmas morning we are 'Dan' and 'Debbie,' and our children are 'Kelsey' and the 'Brian' twins." People loved the family's adorable tradition and shared their thoughts in the comments section. @beckyj1610 said, "We have had an ornament on our family tree since 1992 that says 'our family' with a picture of some random family in it. That's our Christmas joke, lol."
Christmas is also the time to create almost perfect family cards to send out to friends and loved ones. Even though these pictures end up looking nice, people rarely talk about the work that goes behind them. TikTok mother @itsme_abbye ranted about how it was challenging to simply get Christmas cards done every year. She mentions how the process was far from smooth and not at all easy.
The woman broke down the entire process from hiring a photographer to picking dresses and a location. She would then have to get the pictures edited and printed. All of this was just to send out a card that people would not even pay attention to. The woman's video became quite popular because she managed to easily highlight how most of this effort was unnecessary and wasted. It's one of those traditions that families could change or completely avoid.
