A few decades ago, life was slower and quieter, giving kids fewer distractions. But today, in a fast-paced world where instant gratification is common, self-discipline is a rare trait. That’s why the internet was surprised to see a little girl display such restraint after her mom shared what she found while helping her clean her room.

The post by @TanaIsBananas on X has since blown up with over 2.1 million views since it was uploaded on September 15, 2024. "Helping my daughter clean her room and not only are we finding cash stashed in random places but she also has a storage box full of unboxed gifts she’s received that she goes to when she 'needs a little treat,'" the post reads.

The mum later took to the same thread to share a picture of her stash. The photo featured various dolls and other Disney action figures in mint condition. Needless to say, many took to the thread to express their thoughts on the little girls's habits. "The level of self-control this must take, for a child. The self-discipline? Outrageous," writes @WeepyLuna. @maaliyahchanel writes, "Very demure, very classy of her, that baby has more discipline than me." The dad, @idr_handsome on the other hand joked, "Not only was there cash hidden around her room, but a treasure trove of unopened gifts too! Looks like my daughter's been running her gift economy." Others in the comment section talked about their habit of tucking money in different corners of the house just like the little girl. "When cleaning my room before a big redo of everything, I found $600 in cash stashed around in random places - mainly books," writes @jordandurfee54.

Parents have time and again pointed out how small habits that are inculcated when young can help them navigate their lives in this tough world, while some kids naturally gravitate towards good habits, it's important to teach them right from wrong. In another story, a mother shared how teaching kids about management is very crucial. In the video, she shares how she is currently charging her kids rent and utilities.

"My kids get $6 a week for their allowance for chores that they do day to day. $1 per week is expected to go toward their expenses," she says. She then says how she charges them $1 for rent, $1 for groceries, and $1 for utilities on the first of each month so that they learn the importance of money management. "We encourage them in all different categories such as investing, saving, giving, and spending," she adds.

Many people took to the video to talk about the brilliant idea. "It boggles my mind that some parents don't believe teaching their kids about money and budgeting is their job!!! Because it 100% is!!," writes @rOII3rd3rby
