Mom was told her babies didn’t belong in business class. Her comeback was first-class

The new mom was told she shouldn't travel business class either if she can't control her baby.

A new mom (u/stone2891) traveling with her 9-month-old daughter was told, "Babies don't belong in business class." Annoyed by the arrogance, she confronted the rude co-passenger and showed her her real place. The mom shared the story on Reddit on October 28, 2025. The post, so far, has received over 6k upvotes online.

The mom was traveling from New York to Zurich with her newborn baby. Since it was an overnight flight, she booked a business class seat so she and her baby could rest well. As expected, they boarded the flight, and her daughter immediately felt at ease. "A woman comes to take the seat next to me, and I hear her say pretty loudly, 'Are you kidding me?' I didn’t think anything of it; the flight took off, and the baby lay down and slept for 3 hours," she recalled. Everything was okay until the baby woke up hungry and started crying.

The mother also woke up and immediately started making her bottle. "This woman next to me, who had been sleeping, flies up, proceeds to give me the finger, and stomps over to the flight attendant deck, where she loudly tells them that I need to be 'put in economy,'" she said. The co-passenger rudely told the new mom that babies don't belong in business class, and if she couldn't control her baby, then she shouldn't have been traveling either. "I told her I was doing my best and that she could, with all due respect, f*** off, and if she didn’t want the roulette of who she sat next to on a commercial flight, she could fly her a** private," the woman wrote.

For the rest of the flight, the co-passenger put in her headphones and didn't talk to the mom. Later, when the woman informed her mother-in-law, she supported the rude passenger. "She said she agrees that babies shouldn’t be in business class, that it’s an unspoken rule that if you’re flying with a child, you should fly economy," the woman wrote.

When Genfare surveyed 2,000 Americans who fly twice per year, they discovered things that travelers find most annoying when it comes to flying. Surprisingly, 27% of travelers find crying babies or children on a flight annoying.  During long flights, it is obvious that some passengers may feel uncomfortable with a crying baby on board. However, in this case, the 9-month-old baby was barely crying for two minutes, and the passenger created a scene for no real reason. The new mom received overwhelming support on Reddit, with most people calling out the rude passenger. For instance, u/mommersheart commented, "I fly a LOT. Mostly business class, due to upgrades from my status. This woman must never (or rarely) have flown business class before because if she did, she'd know: A) 'putting someone in economy' is not a thing.  B) Babies and children fly too, and sometimes even in business. This person was an idiot. NTA."

u/cleancalligrapher223 said, "I fly business on transatlantic flights, and while I've never experienced a baby in that section, the behavior you described wouldn't bother me. The worst passengers I've encountered have been oversized "lap children" in coach who scream the whole flight because they're uncomfortable. (So are the rest of us.)" u/thistime232 wrote, "NTA. Business class is about getting more comfortable seats and nicer food. It's not about not having to sit next to a baby. That spoiled rich woman can deal with it just like everyone else." u/practical-bake4402 commented, "I get both sides here... crying babies suck on planes, but that’s just part of air travel (and when I understood it too, things became easier). You handled it better than most parents would’ve, and she handled it worse than most adults should."
