Mom calls out absurd parenting double standard after husband gets praised for simply being a dad

Men are often praised for the smallest of things that they do, be it a household chore or something related to taking care of their own children. Women, on the other hand, are rarely given credit despite working pretty much around the clock to run their households and children. Emily Belson, a mom and TikTok user, highlights this issue in a video and she has a point. The video begins with her saying, “My husband just got home from the grocery store. He took both boys. They’re one and two.”

She continues, “Three people stopped him to tell him what a great dad he was for taking them to the store. Do you know how many times I've taken both of my kids to the grocery store and literally everywhere? A million. How many people have stopped me to say I'm a great mom?”

“Zero,” Belson says. The difference in the way moms and dads are treated doesn’t come as a surprise to anyone as outdated gender roles and misogyny have made people believe that it’s the woman’s job to be caretaker and that a man doing even the basics, is worth appreciating.

He actually gets annoyed by it and tells them that he’s only doing what any other dad should be doing and that his wife, I do everything.”

@liberr44 shared, “Right? My husband is a great dad but I am sick of people telling me that when I do so much more.” @brooke_veganish pointed out, “This!!!! I took them to almost ALL appointments and lessons. Dad did occasionally and got all the praise of how wonderful he is.”

Another mom, Clare Brown (@clarebellecwb) made a hilarious video on how men would feel if they were talked to in the same way women are. She can be seen telling her husband, "Hey babe, I'm gonna do the dishes for you. Yeah you rest, you worked hard on dinner, okay I got this." She later asks him, "When I opened the dishwasher there were dishes in there... do I gotta put those away?... I'm just gonna put them on the counter.”

The mom comes back to ask again, "Are you having a nice time relaxing I'm doing the dishes. It's exhausting so." She can then be seen talking on the phone, "Guess what I'm going to do the dishes, just like you, yeah. Trent's lying down so you know, it falls on me to do the dishes." She then simply throws all the dishes into the dishwasher and washes them before returning to ask her husband: "You wanna go down and look?"

Many wives could resonate with the wife and found it hilarious. @saracolemaan commented, "This is so refreshing to see!! Modern wives do so much." @lovelybones170 wrote, "Well done, mom!! I personally think men are better suited for those little household things but it was great of you to help."
