The child safety activist and mom talked about privacy issues with child fan accounts and criticized those tracking and sharing kids' public appearances.
From celebrity kids to adorable children who are featured in reels and memes, little ones are also turning into influencers on social media with their own fan clubs. The bond they have with fans online are called "parasocial relationships" where an individual feels a sense of friendship with people they follow, even though they have never met and most likely won't. By addressing issues with such fan profiles created for kids, TikTok user and mom named Sarah (@mom.uncharted) is currently garnering attention online.
Sarah started her video by urging, “Don’t make social media accounts that are ‘fan clubs’ of children that aren’t your own and are also not looking to be in the spotlight. Someone sent me this on X.” She then displays screenshots of an X account on her green screen. The account is a "Fan Club" for Jason and Kylie Kelce's 4-year-old daughter Wyatt. Numerous photos of Wyatt and the other children of the family are included on the profile which disturbingly provides information about Wyatt's public appearances, tracking the toddler's whereabouts and times of appearance. A message from the account requesting that the Kelce family acknowledge the fan club and reply to Wyatt's supporters is even more disturbing. In her video, Sarah raises awareness of the privacy risks associated with setting up these kinds of accounts for kids.
Sarah points out, "It is a fan club for Kylie and Jason Kelce’s daughter, who is a child — maybe even a toddler — I don’t know. It’s completely bizarre to me." Sarah has seen similar fan accounts for the children of influencers and vloggers, noting that it's a common but an equally creepy practice. “I’ve seen this done for the children of influencers and family vloggers. It’s actually really common, though just as creepy. But, like, the Kelces don’t seem like they want to be putting their children out in this capacity. A quick Google search led to these quotes,” she shares. On her green screen Sarah then read tidbits from interviews where Kylie shared that she finds being in the spotlight "not her cup of tea" and that she struggles when others notice her kids. Sarah ends the video by saying, “Give the family their privacy. They clearly want it.”
Sarah captioned her video, "My assumption is this is a young girl who is a fan of Taylor Swift and doesn't understand how inappropriate this account is." Viewers watching the video shared their two cents on the issue. @marissamakestv commented, "I've gotten the impression over the years that many of the kid fan accounts are run by tweens, but it's still not okay." "I hate these kind of accounts! It is weird to be obsessed with a child," said @vissi_nada. "So creepy to me. How do people not see it’s so inappropriate?" added @3amtiktoktea. "I will repeat it till the end of time if you cannot gain fame without using a child, it’s not for you," commented @realannabellak07. A photographer, @chrishendersonphoto stated, "Oh hell no! People need to reign the crazy in."
