Boy wouldn’t let anyone touch his hair but his barber. So for his funeral, his mom made one last call

Losing someone young brings a different kind of grief, but even in their final stages of life, loved ones do everything they can to honor the details that made them who they were, including things that meant something to them, habits they kept, or preferences that only a few people knew about. For one young boy, it was his hair that he never let anyone touch except his barber, Teddy, and after he passed, his mother made sure that didn't change. Teddy shared the story with @makebigtalk on Instagram when he described that it was the hardest thing he had to do this year.

He said, "To cut my friend's hair and to actually send him away." He shared that coming to terms with death is something he struggles with. "To even turn on the clippers and just see somebody that you used to talk to and they don’t talk back, that was definitely hard for me," he explained. He further shared that he only agreed to cut his friend's hair after he passed because of what the boy’s mother told him. "His mom always said he doesn’t let nobody in his hair but you," Teddy explained. So he gave him the same regular taper, saying, "I did exactly what he asked for." "We sent him home right," he added.

When asked about the things he remembered and loved about the boy, Teddy said he was someone who wanted to learn and always listened. "I’m not a perfect person, but he saw that in me and he also saw something in me that had a light at the end of the tunnel," he said, teary-eyed. When asked what he would say to him now, Teddy replied, "Everybody loves you. Rest in peace." Later, he was asked what he hoped to do before he died. "I did it already. Just wanted people to feel the understanding of loving yourself and loving others. So I could die happy right now. I'm good," he said. He ended with a message that stayed with viewers, "Just be kind to others. Just showing up for people when they can’t show up for themselves. That’s what family is: understanding that we are here for each other. I’m just not your barber, and you’re just not my client."

The story resonated with many who have lived through similar moments. @ibrahimsuleimanofficial wrote, "This made me cry. And strangely, it made me happy too. This is the kind of content that social media should be about. Thank you." @pardonme.dolly commented, "My husband’s barber cut his hair for me when I asked him. He had my husband looking beautiful for his final haircut. It meant A LOT to me, and I’m pretty sure Teddy’s haircut meant the world to that family too." @fredericaspiras said, "Coming from someone who connects with people through their hair, this one really hits home. Thank you for sharing your story and words of kindness to the world." @for_adarkskingirl added, "Commend anyone who can do this for a loved one. Such a beautiful service to do for someone. Can’t imagine."
