Christmas cards can look stunning and adorable, but it is quite a hectic task behind the scenes and this mom rightly describes the struggle.

One of the most popular traditions followed as a family is to create a picture-perfect Christmas card to send to friends and loved ones. While the decorations, the Christmas tree and the Christmas gear enhance the picture and make everything look vibrant, there are behind-the-scenes activities that aren’t as fun. TikTok mom @itsme_abbye shared what it’s like to get Christmas cards done every year and her rant hits the nail on the head. The mom pointed out that the process is not as aesthetic or easy as one would think and it can be pretty exhausting. “My husband asked me one year why we didn’t do Christmas cards and he’s never asked again,” the mom said.

She then shared that her family had made Christmas cards one year when her oldest child was a baby. She then revealed that her husband inquired why they didn’t do Christmas cards. The mom then said, “Yeah, I mean, it’s just cards, right?” She then decided to ask her husband to take charge of getting the cards done. That’s where she began the rant about what a painstaking effort it is to do the same. “You can source the photographer and then you find a date that aligns with her and with all of our schedules,” the mom said. As hectic as it already sounds, she had only begun. She added, “Then you can decide what kind of clothes we all should wear and the location.” By now, not just her husband but several viewers realized and related to the fact that Christmas cards were no joke.

However, the mom wasn’t even halfway through the frantic process yet. “Then you can pay her and you can pick the edits,” she went on. Then there was the arduous task of finding a website, printing the cards and choosing the pictures and the words that go on the cards. Boy, it is a rigorous piece of work! “Then gather up everybody’s mailing addresses, your side and mine,” the mom kept adding. There was still more. Grabbing the envelopes and the stamps and then writing them and mailing them off. “He was like, ‘Huh,’” the mom said as she smirked, already knowing what her husband's reaction would be like. “I was like, ‘Yeah. It’s not just Christmas cards, is it?’ The mental load behind Christmas cards has never seemed worth it to me,” the mom remarked.

She also highlighted the fact that Christmas cards have no purpose being sent to everyone just for the sake of it. “Anyone I send Christmas cards to, I see regularly,” she stated. The mom went viral for sharing the reality behind this popular tradition, which is indeed a burden. Many parents were of the idea that Christmas cards are a wholesome tradition and memory, while others also suggested just writing cards instead of sharing pictures. Other parents shared their experiences of being on the other side of the spectrum. @jenifermroma said, “I appreciate not receiving Christmas cards, they end up in the trash.” Some parents found joy in undertaking the task. @nicmikbic said, “I love the mental load of Christmas cards. It’s my favorite project all year!”
