Parents may not always like their children's partners, but expressing that dislike openly is cruel. A content creator who goes by notfamousbear (@notfamous808) on TikTok recently experienced it with her boyfriend's mother. She explained that her partner's mom always tries to belittle her in front of everyone, and things escalated further when she gifted her Hello Kitty nails on Christmas. Later, when the creator confronted her partner's mom, she was shocked by the response. The video, shared on June 17, 2026, had received over 9 million views on her page.
The Christmas diss
The creator realized that her boyfriend's mom did not like her after she made a rude remark about her prom dress. Well, the 20-year-old had been receiving compliments all night. But that changed when his mother asked if her dress was from Shein. The creator knew that she just wanted to make her feel miserable about her outfit since she'd already mentioned her hatred for the brand. Nonetheless, the woman ignored it. However, during Christmas, when everyone was exchanging gifts, his mother gave her Hello Kitty sticker nails that were meant for little girls, along with a glittery cup and a puppy calendar. When she gave her the gift, the mom said, "Oh, here you go, little girl," and the creator said it felt like a "slap in the face."
A flex too far
The content creator added that more drama happened during their Christmas visit, but she would rather not reveal it because she respected the woman and her family. However, it got so bad that she had to leave the party midway. Afterwards, her boyfriend's mom called her and asked why she left. The content creator was honest and said, "I just feel like we've got a problem, and I've got to get away." What his mom said next was proof that she did the right thing. The mom replied, "We don't have a problem — like, I have more money than you." Even though the creator and her boyfriend were financially independent, the mother felt like she had to compete with her son's girlfriend.
Grandpa got the tea
In a 'Part 2' video, the content creator shared that although her boyfriend stood up for her, his mom continued to disrespect her. In fact, she shared another incident from her boyfriend's brother's birthday. The young lady explained that her partner was sitting next to his grandpa when he told him a secret that she had shared with his mom. She framed it in such a way that would make her son's girlfriend look bad in front of the family. Her boyfriend was so pissed that he left after spending a few minutes at the party. When the content creator tried to confront his mom, she texted her son, disclosing what his girlfriend had said to her. Instead of letting it go, he told his mother to apologize for betraying her trust and privacy.
Drawing boundaries
A Pew Research Center survey in 2023 found that 3 in 10 (or fewer) adults said they disagreed with their parents' opinion at least sometimes. In fact, 30% of respondents, married or living with their partners, didn't agree with their parents' thoughts about their significant other. The same survey revealed that a similar share (30%) of unmarried adults also disagreed with their parents about who they date. Fortunately, the content creator's boyfriend always supported her in front of his mom and never let her opinion affect their relationship.

Meanwhile, people in the comments shared their own personal experiences and told the creator that it would never change.
