'She had a full dossier on his movements for the last three weeks and hard proof that he was cheating on me with my now ex-friend,'
The most surprising and hurtful betrayals come from people closest to you. An anonymous woman recently wrote to Eliss Hall (@elisshall), the host of the "Semi-Solicited" podcast, recalling her heartbreaking experience as a bride-to-be. A few weeks before her wedding, her best friend/maid of honor (MOH) took her out for lunch. Instead of discussing her wedding, she told her about her fiancé cheating on her with one of her bridesmaids. She, of course, called off the wedding, but her best friend's detective-like investigation deserves a story of its own. The video shared on October 6, 2026, has received over 1 million views on Instagram.
The bride-to-be thought she was meeting her best friend over a normal lunch, but her best friend arrived with a "dossier" of evidence about her cheating fiancé. She explained that her boyfriend apparently saw her fiancé "canoodling" a woman and believed it was her best friend. "She knew that I was at work at that time," the bride said, hinting at her fiancé's involvement with another woman. Curious, her best friend/MOH hired a private investigator to follow the fiancé for three weeks.

Soon, the best friend found that her fiancé had been cheating on her right under her nose. He had been involved with one of the bridesmaids, who was still the bride's friend at the time. Hall read, "She had a full dossier on his movements for the last three weeks and hard proof that he was cheating on me with my now ex-friend." Even though the incident happened years ago, the ex-bridesmaid still reached out from time to time, offering an olive branch. The supposed-to-be bride always responded with a photo of her friend and fiancé together.

Most people cheat on their partners with someone they're familiar with. A 2017 study by Lindsay T. Labrecque and Mark A. Whisman found that the majority (53.5%) of people cheated on their partners with a close personal friend. Similarly, 29.4% said they slept with their neighbor, coworker, or a long-term acquaintance. In the bride's case, her fiancé was cheating on her with one of her close friends. Meanwhile, TODAY.com and SELF magazine's poll found that 84% of women and 75% of men had a toxic friend at some point in their lives. Similarly, 45% reported being friends with a backstabber. Clearly, in the case of the bride, both her partner and bridesmaid were backstabbers.

Meanwhile, netizens praised the best friend/MOH for what she did before running to accuse her friend's fiancé. For example, @itskcc wrote, "That’s a girl’s girl right there. Ride or die or dossier!" @aarikadanae commented, "That’s a friend! She said, 'If I’m about to blow up her life, I’m getting her everything.'"
