With economic struggles continuously rising, yet another celebrity came to the rescue of 26 residents at the Portsmouth Housing Society. Iconic rapper Missy Elliott donated $50,000 to the residents who past their due rent as a form of paying back and incorporating kindness into her much successful career. As reported by The Virginian Pilot, the rapper decided to carry out the selfless act of charity on marking a year of her profession and celebrating ‘Missy Elliott Day’ in October. Elliott focused on the idea of the donation to her hometown as a “way of giving back.” Virginia celebrates ‘Missy Elliott Day,’ which was inaugurated last year by the rapper.

The day is centered around celebrating the success and journey of the rapper. This year, when Elliott returned to her hometown, she added more to the celebration via her donation. The rapper, who has won 5 Grammys and is the only female Hall of Fame rapper, dedicates her success and career to her hometown’s life lessons and faith. She posted on her Instagram and shared glimpses of the event where she was seen donating the cardboard cheque.

In her caption, she wrote, “Thank you, VA! Where I was born taught me to drive, taught me faith, taught me humility and also taught me, ‘Don’t try me either.’ But most of all taught me the blessings I get are not just for me but to bless someone else. Love to Portsmouth Redevelopment & Housing Authority & Executive Director Alisa Winston.”

At the event, Elliott also gave a short speech of gratitude and also shared how she planned to make the day more meaningful. “Instead of it being a celebration of Missy Elliott, you know about me, I wanted to give back and let that be the celebration of Missy Elliott, just to show that I love everybody out here,” the rapper shared. The article also cited Patricia Elliott, the rapper’s late mother’s words from one of her daughter’s previous shows. She said, “When you give, you give because you remember those days when you didn’t have. If each person would give when they get to the top, then what a real beautiful world we would be in.”

The rapper gave much credit to her mother, who instilled the attitude of giving back and sharing in her. Adding more, she shared her love for her hometown. Apart from learning the hardest life lessons, she also learned love. “Just know that P-town is with me no matter where I go. I love my city. I love my state. I love everything about it,” she said. The rapper owed her career and the person she has become to her beloved hometown. She said, “Everything about Missy comes from here—the hospitality, the humility, the confidence—if you mess with me, it’s a problem. We are sweet, but don’t try us.”

In another post shared by the rapper on her Instagram, she added to the message she wanted to give to her fans, having come so far. She shared a few images of herself confidently posing in her hometown with the caption, “Been through many ups and downs, but it’s nothing like having faith! God, I thank you for your favor. If anybody feels like quitting, No. Just hang in there, your blessing may be coming sooner than you think! Just keep pushing even through tough times! You built for this.”
