The students were promoting their play over the intercom, but their assistant principal thought a genuine fight had broken out between them.
Sometimes, an acting performance feels so real that it transcends mere acting, showcasing the artist's talent in delivering a convincing portrayal. However, such believable performances can also create drama that leaves audiences thoroughly entertained. When students from a drama club staged a prank to announce their production of "The Play That Goes Wrong," it made their assistant principal come running in to check if everything was alright, as their performance over the school's intercom seemed so authentic. The clip of this amusing shenanigan was shared by the FHS Drama Club (@fhsdrama) on TikTok.
"Our poor assistant principal did not read the email about the prank over the intercom," the text overlay of the video read as two girls stood close to the intercom to play out the prank and promote their production. “Good mor—” one of the girls started, but then cut herself off, saying to the other girl, “Will you stop it? No, I literally said stop it.” A staff member from the school oversaw the announcement and directed the other girl to take over. "Good morning, Franklin High," the girl greeted. At that moment, the girls began hitting the table and making noise as if they were fighting. “Ouch, what are you doing?” one girl screamed before being pushed away.
"I'm doing the announcements! Listen, FHS, come see the play that goes wrong this weekend and see me," the girl who started the fight said firmly over the intercom. But her friend snatched the mic, insisting, "No, come see 'The Play That Goes Wrong' and see me." The girl shot back, "This isn't about you, Larkin." Just then, the assistant principal, believing a real fight was happening, walked in and firmly told the girls to stop. "Turn it off; you're both done. That went to the whole school. The whole time, the whole time," she added. "The whole time! Everything that was just argued about."
The faculty member attempted some damage control and explained to the assistant principal, "I know, yes, we did, on purpose. You didn't get my email?" Realizing what had happened, the assistant principal replied, "No," before letting out a sigh of relief. "Keep going, keep going," Larkin urged the other girl. "Wait, OK," she said, waiting for the go-ahead from the faculty member. "Larkin, stop! I'm doing the announcement!" the girl continued as they resumed banging the table to mimic hitting each other. Eventually, the teacher who was in on the prank intervened and shouted, "What's going on here?"
The caption read, "What a trooper. To be honest, we should've given the admin more warning. But oh well, bro was just doing her job." The video received more than 1.2 million views and over 168k likes. People took to the comments to appreciate the realistic performance. @even.stephen wrote, "Nah, this is so on brand for 'The Play That Goes Wrong.'" @oh.its.amira commented, "I love how instantly annoyed the man is. He did not want her to interrupt the scene." The assistant principal, @sfalc0nes, remarked, "I completely missed the email and all I could think of was, 'These poor girls are arguing and the whole school is hearing them!' They were such good sports about my idiocy!"
