The woman expressed how she understands it is a 'sore subject' but she is a huge advocate for sharing things openly with young adults.
Many parents recognize that it is important to give their teens sex education and talk about all of its aspects so they stay safe. It also ensures that they get to deal with their new and complicated feelings better. However, it isn't the easiest thing to give your children "The talk." So a millennial mom came up with a unique way to give her 14-year-old daughter "the talk." The woman Tamara Mason, who goes by @tamaramasn on TikTok made a detailed presentation to explain everything to her teen.
The presentation included things about romantic relationships and the mom prepared snacks and fruits for her daughter to set the mood. One of the slides read, "How do you know if you like someone." The presentation also explained how to differentiate between romantic and platonic relationships. She also pointed out what the "green flags" are in a relationship. There was also a slide on effective communication and "What can help you not have sex too soon." The mom also assured her daughter that she doesn't need to have sex with someone to prove their worth. Mason also pointed out the differences between "STD and STI" to make sure that her daughter stays safe.
The woman also disclosed how to identify "unhealthy behaviors" or "red flags" in relationships. Mason captioned the video, "Hey everybody! So a couple of days ago my best friend posted about my presentation while I was having “the talk” with my 14-year-old. Yes, I made an entire slideshow for the moment." She added, "Tell me you’re a millennial without telling me you’re a millennial." The mom revealed, "BUT, since then I had over 40 DMs asking for a copy! I was not expecting this reaction at all lol." She went on, "But y’all support my extra-ness and I love that!"
"Nevertheless, I know this is a sore subject for most but I’m a huge advocate for being honest with future young adults because that is how they learn the most, aside from watching us," Mason expressed. The video received over 247k views and more than 54.5k likes. People took to the comments section to share how their parents gave them "the talk" as well as to appreciate the mom's way of discussing such an important subject with her teenager.
@kenziekeymag wrote, "My mom and I had 'the notebook'...there was a notebook in the hallway that I could put any question in, she’d write the answer and I could read it on my own." @melgoose_ commented, "This is so smart! As someone who didn’t grow up in a family where we discussed this thank you for doing this for your daughter!" The mom admitted that she has three daughters and has decided not to leave them in the dark. @yosoybelle shared, "I wish I had this growing up. All my mom did when she found out I was on my period was give me a pad in the bathroom and said now you can have babies, don’t go get pregnant."
@calixpeach remarked, "My daughter is about to turn ten and I’ve been racking my brain on how to have those tough conversations. Thank you for this." @riemaccreations expressed, "The lingo in it, lol, I love it. Visuals help as most people are visual learners. I don’t have any kids, but this is great."
@tamaramasn Hey everybody! So a couple of days ago my best friend posted about my presentation while I was having “the talk” with my 14 y/o. Yes, I made an entire slideshow for the moment. Tell me you’re a millennial without telling me you’re a millennial. 😏 Judge somebody else! 🗣️😂 BUT, since then I had over 40 DMs asking for a copy! I was not expecting this reaction at all lol. But y’all support my extra-ness and I love thattttt! Nevertheless, I know this is a sore subject for most but I’m a huge advocate for being honest with future young adults because that is how they learn the most, aside from watching us. So just for yall, I cleaned the slide deck up to make it gender neutral and wrote notes for what to say on each slide when you use ‘presenter view’.
