The Florida teacher employs the 'Montana Minute' to ease kids off stress and into joy

As the 90s show 'Hannah Montana' celebrates its 20th anniversary, the world is going crazy with nostalgia. On March 28, news emerged of Miley Cyrus (@mileycyrus) dropping a video message for an unsuspecting fan who is not only obsessed with her show but also uses it regularly to give her students a much-needed "brain break" from the textbooks. In a video posted by ABC Localish, Cyrus can be seen thanking Hannah Rodriguez (@hannahheartsteaching) for being such a devoted fan and utilizing the show to inspire younger generations.
Rodriguez is not a regular teacher. As her TikTok bio says, she is a “cool” teacher who teaches second-grade classrooms in a school in Naples, Florida. "I honestly don't remember a point in my life without Hannah Montana," she told ABC News 30, adding that "she came into my life at four years old, and it was the biggest thing.” Growing up into an adult hasn’t stolen away her passion for the girl with blonde wig and dual lives.
Rodriguez has even found a way to inculcate the show into her classroom with something she calls “Montana Minute.” It’s a “brain break” activity intended to offer students a quick break in the day from everything they are learning. In a video, one of her students described that the classroom activity involves taking a piece of paper, writing the name of a song from the show, playing the song, and grading it with stars.
"Hey to everybody in Miss Hannah Rodriguez's class," Cyrus' surprise video began, which was immediately followed by shrieks from both Rodriguez and her classroom kids. "As you may know, I'm Miley Cyrus, and I play Hannah Montana on the Disney Channel."

“I love that you are celebrating Hannah Montana every day with the Montana Minute. Thank you so much for being such big fans,” Cyrus said with a flying kiss in video, which also features a shot of Rodriguez grooving inside her classroom in excitement. The second-grade teacher confessed to the flutter in her heart: "Getting to hear her say my name... mentioned the 'Montana Minute,' the fact that what I'm doing in the classroom made it all the way to LA..."
Hannah Montana ran for four seasons from 2006 to 2011 and featured more than 95 songs across its franchise. It’s the same show that kickstarted Cyrus’ music career. Hannah’s dual identity, dreams of stardom, and struggles of family culture were just some of the factors that made her a sensation among teenagers, apart from the catchy music. A study in the Journal of Psychosocial Research On Cyberspace Cyberpsychology revealed in 2011 that the show's global audience was over 200 million, yielding 31,600,000 hits on Google and 727,000 videos on YouTube.

While the teacher is still soaking in the overwhelming emotion, viewers have also jumped in to laud her for the idea of Montana Minute. “This is such a good story. Love seeing new generation get to enjoy our millennial childhood,” remarked @DeadlineDork3. @caillou4049 exclaimed, “So glad that the younger generation gets to experience a part of our Gen Z childhood.”
For Rodriguez, it seems, the double life of Hannah in the show is now becoming her own reality. As the word spread, she got invited to watch the 20th anniversary filming. “I cried my eyes out as soon as she came out. Just seeing her in that wig, I never thought that I would ever get to see that again," she shared with the outlet. She also appears in an anniversary trailer shared by Disney.
