As Steve Carell made the promise, everyone couldn't help but remember the promise his character, Michael Scott, made in 'The Office.'
One good piece of news can make a big difference to people impacted by a tragedy. Similarly, actor Steve Carell (@stevecarellofficial) is making waves among the high school seniors affected by the wildfires in LA after promising to pay for their prom tickets. The exciting news brought relief and upliftment to more than 800 students in the area, as reported by NBC News. The actor took to Instagram to announce that he was working with a charity named Alice's Kids to cover their prom tickets. However, many people on the internet could not help but relate his promise to the one made by his character Michael Scott in "The Office."
"Attention all seniors! This is Steve Carell with a very special announcement," the actor began. "I work with a wonderful charity based out of Virginia called Alice's Kids." He shared that the organization wanted him to tell all students that they would be paying for their prom tickets. "And if you have already paid for your prom tickets, they'll reimburse you for them." Carell continued, "It's a pretty good deal. Have fun and enjoy the prom." The video concluded, "And remember, this is Steve Carell. Take it easy, guys." The video was received with great cheer from high school seniors around the area, per the outlet.
Many people in the comments applauded the actor's generosity, while others recounted what happened when his character, Michael Scott, made a promise like that in the "Scott's Tots" episode of "The Office." In the show, Scott promised a group of elementary school kids that he would pay for their college education if they graduated from high school. Unfortunately, the character failed to earn enough money to fulfill his promise 10 years later. He had to back out of the promise and deliver the devastating news to the students that he could not pay for their education and would give them lithium batteries for their laptops as compensation.
@gadoyolo recalled the song the kids sang for Mr. Scott in the show, "Hey, Mr. Carell! What are you gonna do? What are you gonna do? Make our dreams come true!" @soultisfaction8 wrote, "Dear Mr. Steve Carell, I am honestly really grateful for the amazing contribution you made to our school. You encouraged a lot of students to attend this once-in-a-lifetime experience. I give my entire honors to you. You are a true superhero." @nate_waymire joked, "Is he gonna give them batteries for laptops so they can watch prom instead?"
@helgavieira commented, "Glad it's Steve Carell and not Michael Scott...'cause we all know what happened the last time Michael Scott made a promise to high school kids." @brentfortis._.2 shared, "Bro, I heard this in the other room of my school and I thought it was a video sent to our school because we are one of those schools, but now it's on Instagram." @ladyjnapa remarked, "Ok, I’m 70 and was wondering why the hell is he buying Senior Citizen Prom tickets? Never mind!" @doudenengle pointed out, "Hold on, remember what happened last time Michael tried to pay for something for the seniors."
