The boyfriend got mad at his girlfriend for getting period stains on their couch and many on the internet believe she should consider that a red flag.
Many people still lack adequate knowledge about how a woman's body functions, contributing to the taboo surrounding menstruation and the shaming of women. Reddit user u/throwRAhdismk shared a devastating experience of being humiliated by her boyfriend after she accidentally bled on their couch. "My boyfriend is mad that I accidentally bled on the couch without realizing that my pad leaked and keeps making me feel bad," she titled the post.
The 20-year-old woman, living with her 24-year-old boyfriend, revealed that they had recently purchased a new couch. When she got her period, things turned ugly. "Yesterday, I started my period and my flow was unusually heavy and I soaked through my pad without realizing it. My boyfriend yelled at me even though I cleaned it up and no stains were left. He told me that he wanted to get rid of it and expected me to replace it since I ruined it," the post read.
"I started putting a tampon in with the pad to prevent another leak and he keeps telling me to quit sitting on the furniture because I'm going to ruin it. He made me sleep on the floor without a blanket or pillow to avoid me staining anything. I'm not sure if breaking up is the right thing, but what should I do?" the woman asked, concluding her post. The Reddit community shamed the man for treating his girlfriend poorly and having hardly any knowledge about the normal bodily functions of a woman.
u/Wtfaidiml noted, "There are two problems here: One, this guy is an idiot and if he is 'making' you sleep on the floor with no blanket or pillow, that's just abusive. Two, don't ever degrade yourself. Understand you are worth more than being told to sleep on the floor like an animal. If the facts are as you tell them, you need to find a better for yourself and leave. No question." u/techramblings wrote, "This is pretty disgraceful behavior on his part. Having periods is a natural part of life. Do you want this reaction from him every time it happens? He either needs to grow up and accept women's bodies as they are or it's time for you to move on and find someone who treats you like a human being. You wouldn't force a pet to sleep on the floor without a blanket or pillow, let alone another human being."
In another instance, the TikTok page @beefingwiththeblacks shared a video on menstruation that sparked a whole lot of debate. The wife, Haley, found her husband saying in a video that "periods are overhyped." She immediately decided to give him a piece of her mind and some necessary education about periods. “First of all, women in their 20s have had it for like 10 to 15 years so the pain can’t be that bad,” the man said. Taking a deep breath, Haley responded and told him to "stop talking until you have had blood coming out of your body like a running faucet. Just because I've had it since I was 12 or 13 years old, it's overhyped?” The man argued that the event only occurs once a month and couldn't be a big deal.
She explained how periods are horrible for certain women and the pain is excruciating to the point that they can't even go to work. However, the husband seemed ignorant of her words, so she challenged him to put on the period pain simulator in a second video and his reaction had women bawling with laughter. Haley used the simulator on herself at first and went through it without any hassle. When her husband put on the simulator, he immediately started twitching as soon as she cranked the pain index higher and higher. The little challenge possibly taught the husband and others like him that women do not have it easy when they get their periods.
