The man constantly acted smug and aggressive after each winning move while playing with the woman which made the ending more spectacular.
It is a common belief that there are certain things that women can't do or can't do as well as men. It can be quite upsetting to be looked down upon, but sometimes, the tables turn in more ways than one. A US women's top 100 chess champion who also played in chess championships as a kid shared a clip of how men playing chess in the street were gloating as she played with them, without realizing who she was before she made the winning move. The woman, Jules, who goes by @julesgambit on TikTok, took to the platform to share the video.
"When they think you can't play because you are wearing bows," the text overlay of the video read. In the clip, the woman was playing chess with a man as several other men surrounded them to watch the game. The man managed to get one of her Chess pieces and celebrated with his hands up in the air. He also swiped his hands in the air, motioning that he had finished his opponent's game. He aggressively took a piece every time he managed to do so and tapped aggressively at the clock as well. But soon enough, Jules played her winning move and left the man floored. All the spectators cheered for her as she made a chef's kiss sign with both of her hands. Many people took to the comments section of the video to share their thoughts on the topic and to share their own experiences.
@malierzz wrote, "Can someone who plays tell me what’s happening? I mean I understand a queen is important af but there’s no check. Is it just that he lost his queen so early?" @tnza70 commented, "What happened? She put the bishop under attack from tours and Black’s king is generally in a completely different direction, then what did he freak out about? Then just play and play." @sste.l.a remarked, "It's only good because he was being cocky a second ago but then again, it's soooo good."
@catch.these.vibes shared, "Even the man in the back couldn’t keep up meanwhile she wondering 'now why the f*** would you do that?'" @energieheilung expressed, "Same with the taxi drivers at main station with Backgammon. Like, chill out! I'm not bewitching the dice." @the.christine pointed out, "Old men are often cocky and condescending and throw tantrums, so seeing them lose a game they were so aggressive about, to a woman they underestimated, is peak entertainment."
The caption to the post read, "The ending though." The video received more than 4.9 million views and over 808k likes. In another video, the woman shared the challenges women in chess face during the simplest things, "Playing chess as a woman be like..." she wrote in the text overlay of the video. She had shared a tweet with her other female chess player friends on their night out together. The caption read, "Chess players on our night off." All of them seemed to be having fun as they posed for the camera. A man, @rtm135 had commented, "Something tells me that not a single one of you actually knows how to play chess." Jules expressed through the caption, "The irony is immense."
