During the Melbourne Cup long weekend, the author finally reached the end of his patience.

Some people will never pay heed, no matter how many times they are told to do something. When someone repeatedly parks in your spot, it becomes frustrating to realize they have no intention of respecting your rules, but sometimes a pinch of pettiness is all it takes for them to learn their lesson. When u/Commercial_Stick1826 noticed a man kept parking in his spot despite being told not to, he devised a clever plan that worked in his favour, and the internet is loving it! Sharing the story on Reddit on November 14, the post has gained over 3.4k upvotes so far.

u/Commercial_Stick1826, who lives in an apartment in Melbourne, was tired of a neighbor who kept parking in his basement spot. Although he had asked the neighbor to move his car, he never paid heed. "I've told him a few times and every time he just laughs and says I'll move it quickly, yeah, right," the author wrote. After countless attempts to make him understand, the author decided to take matters into his own hands. During the Melbourne Cup long weekend, the author noticed that the man had parked in his spot. He quickly got in and parked his vehicle in a way that blocked access to his neighbor's car. Later that day, the neighbor came knocking at the author's door, asking him to move his vehicle. The author lied, claiming that he'd "lost" his keys and had been searching for them for quite some time.

He wrote, "I say, 'Look mate I'm not able to find my keys on my car; I've been searching everywhere for the past hour; I tried to ring the locksmith and they said it's going to be double the charge, around 500 bucks or something, due to the public holiday.' I tell him, 'Look mate, you got to wait for two days [or] if you're happy to pay, you pay.'" The agitated neighbor threatened to call the cops on the author, who told him, "Mate, you are stuck in my spot. You can call the police or anyone, I don't give a shit." Needless to say, the author's plan worked as the neighbor never dared to park in his spot again. "Two days later, I 'magically' find the keys, he storms off pale and furious, he hasn't dared park in my spot since, and I still crack up thinking about how angry he got trapped like that," he wrote.
A 2015 study authored by David S. Chester and C. Nathan DeWall noted that when people retaliate after being provoked, a region of the brain linked to reward and pleasure becomes active. That is, revenge actually feels good at a neurological level, which can make retaliatory behavior more likely because the brain treats it as a rewarding experience. By teaching his neighbor a lesson, the author was not only able to get back his parking spot but also feel a sense of satisfaction in teaching him a lesson he would never forget.

Soon after the post went viral, many users reacted to the author's petty revenge. u/Tasty-Mall8577 shared, "Another poster had the police called on them. They answered the door with a glass of wine in one hand & a trip in their step & the police said "never mind". I hope there won’t be another time for you, but I recommend the technique!" u/PokeHerFaceOff44 wrote, "Absolute legend move. Nothing like letting someone stew in their own impatience. Honestly, petty justice never felt so satisfying." u/GardeniaFranipani commented, "This is one of the best stories I've read here. I have the feeling he knows you were BSing him. I'd love to pour a cup of cat p*ss down the vents of a certain car, but CCTV cameras stop me."
