With years of experience, alum McConaughey will be going back to school this fall to teach a unique 'Script to Screen' course.

Matthew McConaughey joins University of Texas as full-time professor

In a post uploaded to social media platform Twitter on Wednesday, August 28, morning, the University of Texas announced that Academy Award-winning actor Matthew McConaughey is all set to join their full-time faculty as a film professor, Insider.com reports. The Dallas Buyers Club actor was previously a visiting professor at the educational institution but is excited to join his alma mater as a full-bodied member of the faculty. After graduating Longview High School in Longview, Texas, McConaughey joined the Bachelor of Science in Radio-Television-Film program at the University of Texas at Austin in the year 1989, which makes this a happy return to his roots.

The University of Texas Moody College of Communication posted on Twitter: In recognition of his professional pedigree and personal investment in student success, Matthew McConaughey has been appointed a Texas Moody professor of practice. McConaughey will continue to teach the University of Texas Script to Screen class in The Department of Radio-Television-Film. Of course, graduates from the university and students alike expressed their excitement about the news, while others applauded the actor for sharing his knowledge and expertise.

Hook ‘em! LeoSparkling stated: Congratulations! Such excellent news! McConaughey - you have two hands, one to help yourself and one to help others. So proud of you [for] continuing to share a part of your talent with the students. You're all blessed and privileged. Best wishes for a successful semester. Nerds4lifee affirmed: I would do anything to get into this class!

While the film course may be strangely more peculiar this semester than in years prior, there is no doubt that McConaughey will be a great addition to the university faculty. Regarding the course, the actor told UT News in an interview, "It’s the class I wish I would have had when I was in film school. Working in the classroom with these students gives me a chance to prepare them. Making movies, turning words on paper into film, is both a science and art—no matter the time or generation. The elements of truth and genuine joy for the process are timeless. That will always be our classroom focus."

Moody College Dean Jay Bernhardt said of the new joinee, "We are proud to welcome Professor McConaughey to officially join our world-class faculty. Matthew cares deeply for our school and our students, and we are thrilled that he shares his time and talent to help prepare the next generation of media leaders and innovators." According to UT News, McConaughey designed the Script to Screen course’s curriculum. The program will provide a "unique, behind-the-scenes view of each stage of a film’s production."
