'Marry Me' sign on the beach causes chaotic mix-ups with couples: 'Never seen so many guys sweating'

A person set up a 'Will You Marry Me?' sign at a beach and every couple passing by it thought it was meant for them.

Not everyone is a fan of elaborate public proposals, but couples in serious relationships do look forward to their partner proposing to them with a ring. However, a man named Dave Gibson—who goes by @mrdavegibson on TikTok—shared a video where a wedding proposal plan clearly led to countless misunderstandings. At a scenic beachside location in Krabi, Thailand, a bunch of people were busy putting up an elaborate wedding proposal sign that included a giant decorated heart shape along with the customary "Will You Marry Me" sign on either side of it.

It was obvious that someone was putting in lots of effort and money to organize the entire setup to propose to his partner. However, the people tasked with decorating the spot started putting up the signs and other items early in the morning. As a result, this led to some confusion among couples who were strolling on the beach and happened to pass by the sign. "Wedding proposal nightmare!" the video overlay read. "Someone set up a 'Will You Marry Me' sign on our beach, and every couple that walked past thought it was for them." Gibson added in the caption that many people's holidays were probably ruined after they realized the sign was not put there by their respective partners.

The clip also featured several couples who strolled past the proposal sign adorned with white roses. They paused and giggled for a moment as some women looked up at their partners hopefully. But all they got was a bunch of nervous and confused male partners looking back at them.

"I was there for about three hours and I've never seen so many guys sweating and trying not to panic in one afternoon," Gibson continued in his post. At one point, Gibson zoomed in on one man and woman having a romantic photoshoot opposite the sign. Gibson remarked in the video that the lady possibly thought it was meant for her.

He added in the comment section that he witnessed couples who appeared to argue over the misleading situation, upon realizing that their partners didn't decorate the proposal spot. The TikTok community dropped in their thoughts on elaborate marriage proposals and even wondered what led to the proposal nightmare at the beach. @lifewithlexyjordan recalled, "My fiancé did something similar for our engagement and we were walking through it and I got mad at him for walking through someone's proposal. I did not know it was mine."

@xlfrikandel commented, "My girl wouldn't even like such a grand public proposal and neither would I, but this sure is lovely." @misspsychokiller wrote, "I bet the staff were laughing the whole time setting that up and hearing everything." @scottishsausages quipped, "Imagine saying, 'Yes it's for you,' then the real ones show up." @reniadeb added, "The way I would get down on bended knee to do a fake-out and then probably be immediately dumped."

In a follow-up video that got over 2 million views, he urged the online community to help him find the couple who actually got engaged at that spot in Thailand. "My wife can't be the only one who, if she spots a potential marriage proposal, the whole holiday comes to a halt until she witnesses it and cries, even though it's two total strangers!" Gibson mentioned in his second video, pointing the camera at his wife, who seemed excited to witness the actual proposal.

Gibson's wife was informed by one of the people working on the decors that the proposal was scheduled for 6 p.m. that day, but it ended up taking place later than they anticipated. Gibson and his wife finally spotted the real couple arriving at the scene when it was getting dark outside. Fortunately, everything seemed to flow smoothly for the couple as the woman accepted the man's proposal and jumped up and down with joy.
