Man writes sarcastic complaint letter for laughs — accidentally summons eight top corporate executives

When people say, “Just give it a shot,” they’re not kidding because either by fluke or by an unknown potential, sometimes things just work out. A man who goes by u/WordJauntSiblings thought it would be funny to complain about having plates at his favorite restaurant chain. His sister sent out the mail and thought nothing of it. His intention was completely sarcastic and filled with humor. To his surprise, his unserious business transformed from wit into a pitch. Before he knew it, the big bosses in the corporate world were interested in what he had to say. Their Reddit post on December 13 caught readers laughing their hearts out.

The man mentioned that he and his family lived very close to a chicken wing outlet and would often visit. Over time, a lot about the place and service started to get to him, particularly the food presentation. “No plates at all. Just sad little cardboard boats that felt like something from Chuck E. Cheese, not a sports bar,” he remarked. He was frustrated with it but never thought much and, for the sake of it, wrote a critic letter. He mentioned his concerns but also added unhinged humor, since it was just meant to be for the laughs between him and his sister, Allie. “She laughed so hard she insisted we mail it certified so someone at corporate would be forced to read it. That was the mistake that set everything in motion,” he said.

All they wanted was to have something to remember and laugh about, but they got something baffling instead. The headquarters contacted him and arranged for a meeting. The brother-sister duo was now stuck with something they never saw coming, and undoubtedly, it was confusing but bizarrely impressive. “We prepared a full pitch. We had visuals, solutions, a catchphrase, and even a patented idea. We were very prepared. Probably too prepared,” he wrote. When the day of the meeting arrived, the duo saw something unreal. “Eight of the top executives of the entire chain. CEO, COO, VP,” all waiting to meet them. Mixed emotions started to set in. This was either going to be a big screw up, a big deal, or a big nothing.

He quickly credited the seniors for being so in touch with customer concerns. They began to give their pitch, but soon realized it was not something those experienced, skilled, and professional people wanted to hear. Instead, they wanted to offer solutions they had prepared in response to his letter. “They must have taken it seriously because they had already implemented some fixes,” he noted. Nevertheless, the man put his ideas out there and even patented them. It felt like a huge financial blow, but they had to put up a business mind with eight big shots having made the time to sit with them for the very purpose.

The meeting went on, and the CEOs shared their ideas, aluminum trays which the siblings immediately titled “prison trays.” But if one thing was clear, it was that their pitch was not being approved. Things got super weird to the point where the man asked his sister to ring the fire alarm to distract and escape, but she refused. Fortunately, the meeting ended, but the duo couldn’t help feeling utterly confused by the importance their sarcasm had received. When he asked why so many top professionals had to fly there, the response he got was wild.

“The COO said they had to meet the people who wrote that letter, but honestly, they were not sure if they would meet creative geniuses or complete weirdos. I told him that was funny because we thought the exact same thing about them,” he remarked. The meeting ended that night, but it wasn’t all lost for the siblings. That letter really changed their lives. They took some time and pitched creatives to other corporations. “A whole creative life was born from one sarcastic complaint letter. The meeting did not launch a product. It launched us,” he said. It’s bizarre, but if it leaves you with any lesson, let it be this — just let your authentic self shine, who knows, it might just land you a deal!
