Sometimes all you're looking for is a 'stable' relationship.
The internet has a way of bringing together people with the most specific interests. One corner is swapping family soup recipes. Another is solving logic puzzles no one knew they needed. And somewhere in between, some are tuning in to watch a man ask, "If I were a horse, would I date this horse?" That’s the entire premise behind comedian and creator Max's five-part series on his Instagram @maxrulesyoudrool. What started as a joke has become one of the funniest and most oddly thoughtful bits online, becoming a series of five parts, each funnier than the last.
In each video, Max reviews photos of different horses, many of them sent in by followers, and evaluates their personalities, style, and romantic potential as if he were also a horse considering a relationship. With a completely straight face, he analyzes each horse’s energy, which is both hilarious and emotionally specific. In one video, he considers a confident chestnut horse in a cowboy hat and says, "Yes, I like his hat." For a horse lying in the sand, he reflects on its energy, saying, "No, this horse is giving like, not doing the chores that were agreed upon but then being like, 'Look how cute I am.'"
Another video features a new group of horses, including one with a flowing mane and a striking pose. Max rejects the idea of dating it, saying, "No, this horse just feels really wrapped up in themselves. And I feel like I’d be tossed to the wayside." Some assessments are swoon-worthy. One galloping stallion gets this thoughtful review: "I feel like this horse would take really good care of me and make me feel safe." Others reveal a deeper self-awareness. Looking at a snowy white horse, he confesses, "Yeah, I would never feel like I deserve this horse."
The "dating app horse" in one segment gets a unique take, in which he points to a horse and says, "No, I think me and this horse would match on a dating [app] and then decide to be friends." And, of course, there’s the horse he describes as having "slow burn romance" potential, imagining they’d "spend many happy years together." The series is absurd, oddly poetic, and laugh-out-loud funny, and it’s sparked a wave of appreciation in the comments. @paraborska wrote, "I love watching your dating horse experience." @mrowed commented, "I was really sad and listening to sad music just now, but this made me smile. Thank you."
@ugly_christmas.sweater asked, "So, do we all collectively agree with every single decision he makes in these videos, or is that just me?" @manrosocal noted, "I think YOU would just want to be friends with a dating app horse. But it looks like the horse has stronger feelings. Don’t speak for the horse." @hjcollins07 added, "It’s especially funny because people who really know horses know that he’s picking the tweaks of horse breeds." @notameekrat celebrated, "I dreamt of this day coming. All night, all day, all I think about is, 'If I were a horse, would I date this horse pt. 3' and the day has finally come." @kristin__kitlica joked, "Every horse girl right now is like, 'This guy just gets me.'
