Being a partner in a relationship comes with various responsibilities that one might not always enjoy, yet sacrifices often have to be made. It can be challenging to maintain a positive demeanor and be a people pleaser all the time. However, one husband who needed a break from his "duties" decided to come clean with his wife in the sweetest way possible. Ahead of the crucial New York Knicks opening night, Fred wrote a letter to his wife, Joy—who goes by @JoyyUnSpeakable on X. "Ladies, choose yourself. I woke up to this nonsense after almost 11 years of marriage," the perfume and beauty content creator jokingly wrote on the platform while sharing the "honest" letter by her husband.

"Hating" to write the letter, Fred bluntly told his wife that he could no longer be her husband. He chose the best possible explanation to temporarily step back from his role as a partner and father without feeling guilty. He wrote, "Let me start by saying that I love you dearly. You mean the world to me. However, I owe it to both myself and you to be completely honest." Fred sounded dead serious when he continued, "I have to come forward with my truth. I hate to do it this way, but it's now or never because what I'm about to say needs to be said." It was at this point that Fred, who was rooting for the Knicks against the Boston Celtics, opened up about wanting to watch the opening game on October 22, 2024. The basketball enthusiast left everyone in stitches by informing his wife that he was leaving his duties as a husband and father during the highly anticipated game.

"I will be watching the game tonight. That means from 7 p.m. (when the pregame starts) until whenever the game ends, I will not be a husband or a father. Y'all are on your own for a couple of hours," Fred told Joy. He stated that he would not be watching the shows the family enjoys watching together. He also wouldn't be bringing anything sweet for them or taking the dog for a walk during the game. In fact, putting the kids to bed was off his radar as well.

"I will sit on the couch, drink in hand, and watch the game. That's it. This doesn't mean I love you guys any less; it just means tonight isn't about y'all. It's about ruining the Boston Celtics' ring ceremony," Fred wrote before the game. However, the team he supported was routed by the Celtics, who set a record for the most three-pointers on opening night. Later, the husband stated that the game time was non-negotiable for him. He even hinted at similar abandonments in the future until the end of this year's NBA season.

"The child may stay up past bedtime only if he watches the game with me. If he doesn't want to watch, then off to bed he goes," Fred wrote, concluding his letter. Joy's post has garnered over 46 million views. Meanwhile, Joy also posted a screenshot of a conversation the couple had after she discovered the letter. When Joy asked, "I gave you almost 12 years of my life for you to leave me a letter like that?" her husband justified his actions by stating that he needed to be true to himself, even if it hurt, sparking reactions from online viewers.

On game day, everything smoothly, as Joy shared a video update on the platform. She even decided to buy tickets for the Knicks' next game, which will be held in Charlotte next month, as a birthday gift for her husband. "That's my best friend y'all are talking about, and he's a damn good father and husband. He has helped me through my darkest days and continues to make me laugh," she wrote in the thread.
