In the world of discovering and researching new and old, one cannot fully understand and study elements unless they have complete access to them. It means no matter how dangerous or delicate the element is, professionals need to take a risk to get an efficient result. An explorer–who goes by Abandoned Explorer on YouTube–ventured to try and figure out why such items found in Chernobyl, Ukraine are eerily dangerous. Pripyat, in particular, holds the Chernobyl Power Plant along with other substances that are highly dangerous and radioactive. The man visited the area to discover more.

Though a warzone now, the man visited the place and explored quite a few areas in Chernobyl. Sharing a short portion of his experience on his page, the man was with his tour guide, who was equally curious to discover. After exploring an abandoned bit of Chernobyl, they arrived at a spot surrounded by trees. The guide then mentioned that he had something to show to the man. Titling it “one of the most radioactive objects,” he hurried over with a small container. The guide revealed that in the container lay a mix of polonium and another element and proceeded to try and open it. Knowing the drastic nature of the radioactive emissions, one would hesitate.

They got a ziplock out of the bag. Considering that the substance was “the most radioactive” one they’d ever come across, the duo decided to proceed with caution. They laid the plastic with the substance on a flat surface and brought out a machine to check its radiation. The man shared a reading of the machine, which was around 0.005. He said, “That is the radiation in our body and you can see it’s close to nothing.” He then placed the machine onto the container and obtained a reading. As he placed the machine, the reading rapidly started increasing. Going from 0.005 it reached up to 0.072 in a matter of seconds.

The man had mentioned that the low reading of 0.005 was the radiation in the human body the entire day. Meanwhile, the substance yielded a far-off shocking reading of 0.072. It didn’t stop there. The tiny, one-fourth of a fraction of the substance’s radiation reading was increasing with no boundaries. In no time, the reading showed numbers over 1000. Before the video could conclude, the numbers were still rising to over 1300, so one can only imagine how dangerous the substances were. The man took out the machine and raised it midair and the radiation immediately dropped to 99. “That should go back in and never be opened again,” the man exclaimed.

The duo had people boggled and bawling their eyes out, especially after the man attempted to open the container bare-handed. Others mentioned how they’d love to visit the place to experience the eerie reality. @max1point8t wrote, “Is that a piece of graphite from the reactor? Maybe even a piece of fuel? That thing is spicy.” @heyhello1306 exclaimed, “Are you okay? I mean, you touched a very very very radioactive thing.” @traemaxwell added, “It’s got to be a fragment of fuel from the reactor.” @deusvult34 remarked, “‘Most dangerous thing found.’ Touches it with bare hands.”
