A manager at an A&W restaurant believes that she is not entitled to give her staff breaks, the internet thinks otherwise.
From getting paid for working overtime to receiving breaks, every little perk helps an employee do their job better. It also increases their job satisfaction. However, many times employers don't care about their workers but the profits they are making for the company. It is apparent in a notice posted at an A&W restaurant. Reddit user, u/SenatorSharks shared this notice and people were shocked to learn how the establishment treats its employees.
The notice read, "In the state of Missouri, breaks are not mandatory. We give them to help control labor!" If this line is not shocking enough, the notice also stated that the restaurant is not obliged to let anyone work a certain number of hours before they cut the floor. Simply because there is no guideline in Missouri related to that. The notice continued, "With that being said we do have to give 15-year-olds a break." Also, the person added that the job poster, Kimberly, needed everyone to understand that they are short on staff and lay off about the breaks. "If we can give you a break, we will. But if we can't stop the attitude!" The notice instructed. She concluded by saying there would be no set schedule from the said week for anyone. People in the comments section were shocked to read this and even shared their similar experiences. u/Zelcron even wrote, "Enjoy the staff you deserve."
u/geta-rigging-grip expressed, "I was golfing last summer with some co-workers (unionized carpenters) and ended up talking with the group ahead of us when we got backed up at one of the holes. One guy was the owner of a wood shop and started telling us how he needed good guys with a variety of experience (his list of qualification requirements was pretty extensive). Then he proceeded to say, 'It's hard to find anybody because no one wants to work anymore.' Me and my co-worker looked at each other, rolled our eyes and asked in unison, 'How much do you pay?' He answered, '$22/hr to start, with the potential to move up to $25 in six months.' Yes, I get that our union wages are more than most small shops could offer, but our laborers make more than he was offering to a 'journeyman or equivalent,' so I'm not surprised in the least that he had trouble finding workers. Plus, if you ever unironically utter the words 'no one wants to work anymore,' it automatically disqualifies you from being taken seriously in my eyes."

Whoever owns the place always finds the trashiest losers to 'manage' it and can't seem to figure out why they can't keep any help." u/patrickstarismyhero pointed out, "There's always some hardened bitter old timer who keeps the place running because they put in 60 hours a week and get paid $9/ an hour and they're proud of it! And they're super angry and hostile towards those entitled, spoiled, lazy, no-good kids who think they're so much better than everyone else they demand breaks and dignity and a wage to support their life! F****** hippies! We were born to be slaves!"
