Manager makes it a point to leave office every day at 5pm and explains wholesome reason why he does it

The corporate work culture is made to benefit business owners to say the least. Employees are often expected to work longer hours and do overtime without any extra pay to complete projects. It is rare that managers or bosses do anything to make the lives of their employees easier. Alec, @pm_alec, a content creator and work expert, talked about this issue in a recent TikTok video. He described how the CEO he had previously worked with would always leave the office promptly at 5 o'clock. Alec never understood why until he decided to finally ask him. His answer is thoughtful and the most wholesome thing a boss can do for his employees. He explains in his video that the CEO left every day at 5 PM sharp and he "sat sort of at the back of the building." 

Moreover, the CEO actually did not stop working and Alec used to see him online well into the night. One day, he saw him taking a call outside in his car and the next day Alec decided to ask him why he was doing that. "Why don't you just take your call, like, from your office?" he asked. The CEO replied, "People don't feel comfortable leaving until the boss leaves and I want people to feel comfortable leaving by 5 pm." He added that he makes it a point to leave by that time even if he has more work to do. 

As people are not accustomed to this much care and understanding in work environments, everyone is applauding this CEO. The video has over 1.7 million views and several comments. One TikTok user commented, "Some executives are clueless about how company culture is created. It starts at the top." Another shared their own experience, "I have a director that will pace the aisles looking for people working past 5 and he’ll tell people to go home. Work will be there tomorrow." 

"I think it incentivizes productivity because if people are looking forward to getting out sooner, they may hustle to wrap up their tasks in time," noted another. Alec replied and described his CEO as a beast "from 9-5. Never seen anyone get more done." 

A very basic yet crucial aspect is brought to light through this video. Your employer determines the tone and speed of your job. Whether you like it or not, the behavior of those in powerful positions greatly influences the culture of your company. If leaders follow the example of this CEO then employees will be more relaxed, rested, and less stressed at their jobs. It also will allow people to have a fine work-life balance. 

A TikTok user said, "Great CEO. My boss says I get paid to work after 5. You don’t. Stop at 5 and enjoy life." A boss even joined in to say, "I left to walk my dog every day at 230. I worked until 9 pm every day but I wanted all of them to not feel pressured to work as late as me." With the economy inching towards a recession, it is a crucial time to develop work environments that feel safe and enriching. Alec's previous boss is totally leading the way.
