Man who lost his hearing at the age of 2 hears his mother's voice for the first time in 35 years

Hearing their mother's voice is a beautiful memory that most people hold close to their hearts from a very young age. Even as a grown-up, listening to the reassuring tone of our mother can help us relax even at the most stressful of times and give us the strength to tackle obstacles. However, able-bodied people often take this blessing for granted and forget to appreciate just how powerful hearing their mother's voice is. A video now going viral on social media is doing a pretty good job of reminding everyone to cherish this gift. The video, which shows the emotional reaction of a man who did not get to hear his mother's voice for 35 years of his life, will absolutely move you to tears. 

Eduardo, 37, reportedly contracted meningitis when he was just 2 years old. According to CDC, this condition is caused by "an inflammation (swelling) of the protective membranes covering the brain and spinal cord." A bacterial or viral infection in these membranes can cause meningitis and it can lead to vision and hearing loss among other adverse symptoms. Eduardo lost hearing in both his ears due to the illness and was not able to hear anything from a very young age.

However, thanks to the advances of medical science, hearing aids and the prayers of his family, he once again got the chance to hear noises. The first voice he heard after all those years of silence was that of his mother. His reaction upon hearing his mother speak his name is extremely heartwarming and emotional. In the video, shared by Good News Correspondent on Twitter, his mother can be heard repeating his name over and over again while sitting beside him.

"Eduardo. Eduardo. Eduardo," she says, becoming visibly emotional as her son gestures that he's able to hear her. Upon seeing his mother's reaction, Eduardo also breaks down into tears and looks around at all his family members.

The emotional moment between the mother and son was witnessed by their other family members including children who also get tears in their eyes upon seeing the heartwarming interaction. The video deeply moved Twitter users and has garnered more than 4400 likes since being shared on Thursday. A Twitter user commented, "The best thing I've seen in a long time. We can grow up in the eyes of the world, but you'll always be a little child with eyes full of wonder to your mama." Another said, "My deepest respects to Eduardo and his family for hanging on to life and waiting until this moment." 

"Beautiful. So happy for him and his family," commented a third.

In another similar instance, a young boy named Christopher was confused and emotional upon hearing his mother's voice for the first time. His reaction was also caught on video and it went viral on TikTok. In the video, the doctors activate his hearing aid on the count of three and his parents try to talk to him. He seemed surprised at first and stares at his parents with wide eyes. He then went ahead to hug his mother while his father reassures him that everything is going to be okay. This beautiful video moved the internet to tears and gave everyone a reminder of how we often take very simple things for granted like hearing our mother's voice.
