A man requests people on the internet to help his neighbor and gets overwhelmed when he receives results beyond expectations.
Humanity thrives on ideals like kindness, understanding and empathy. Without these qualities, there would be no difference between people and animals. It is important that people keep showing up for each other to maintain the spirit of humanity in this world. This is what Colin McConnell (@colin313 on TikTok) asked people from all across the world to do for his disabled neighbor and he was not disappointed. He shared the heartbreaking story of a single father struggling to support his kids and people came in hordes to extend a hand of help. The scale of support was unexpected, but it became a beacon of light for the distressed family.
Colin begins the video by sharing his acquaintance with Donald Wison. He explained that he has been neighbors with the latter for a long time. One day, the neighbor informed Colin that his three daughters would be around now because, unfortunately, their mother had passed away. The girls are very sweet and have an art collaboration going on with Colin. He shared, "His daughters always draw on the stairs and I always draw something back."
It is evident that the family is going through hard times. The father is on disability and is doing "just the absolute best that he can with what he has." As a neighbor, Colin contributes and helps as much as he can. Whenever he goes for coffee, he makes sure that he brings donuts for the girls. But he wants to "do more." Therefore, he decided to use his reach on social media to get the girls what they needed. He asked permission from Wilson, who agreed to this.
Colin shared in the video that he has included things for the girls on his Amazon wishlist. Then, he requested his viewers to look through the wishlist and contribute whatever they could to bring a smile to the girls' faces. He asked for things like "peanut butter, snacks and socks, shoes, clothes." People showed up in huge numbers and the next day there were many packages waiting for the family, as per WXYZ Detroit.
In his interview with the outlet, Colin shared, "I didn’t think it would do that big and all of a sudden, it was thousands! I was like, ‘What! Oh my God!'" Wilson himself could not believe the support shown to his family and said, "That was the biggest thing for me, not feeling like I’m able to do it or I’m not capable to do it, but Colin made it easy. He made me feel at home, he made me feel like a brother, like family."
The comments section appreciated the gesture and wanted to make a positive impact. @theycallmecoolreethan suggested ways in which kids could benefit from government support: "If he is on SSI/SSD, the kids qualify for EBT and a check from J&F, if not a death benefit check for them. Hopefully, he has looked into all options." @papabear2121 appreciated how Colin showed up to help and commented, "You are a great man. I'm a single father with four kids. And let me tell you, people are too busy to care for others. God bless you."
