When he said the scheme would double the money in a week, it was a clear red flag

A woman, Mia (@luxemiaa), found herself at a crossroads after her husband threatened to leave when she refused to fund his crypto trading. Well, he knew that his wife and her ex had saved some money to fund their daughter's aviation dreams. But instead of supporting her, the husband demanded $13,000 from her savings account to cover his investment trading. Her post, shared on May 7, has received 123,700 views on X.
My marriage is apparently ending because I refused to hand over my daughter’s flight school money for cryptocurrency.

I remarried a few years after my first husband passed away. Before he died, we had been putting money aside for our daughter so she could go to pilot school one…
Mia remarried a few years after her ex, the father of her daughter, tragically passed away. Before his demise, he and Mia had saved some money to fund their daughter's dream of becoming a pilot. "She’s 19 now and finally about to start. It’s something we planned for years," she shared. However, things turned ugly between Mia and her current husband when he insisted she withdraw $13,000 from her savings account to help him cover his "cryptocurrency trading strategy." Apparently, the man was certain he would double the money in a week. "He was completely serious. Talking fast, showing charts on his phone, acting as if he had personally solved the financial system," Mia recalled.
I told him absolutely not because that money is for my daughter’s education. That should have been the end of the conversation.

Instead he got angry and told me if I wouldn’t support him, then maybe we shouldn’t be married. At first I thought he was being dramatic, but now he’s…
Mia turned down her husband's demand and refused to withdraw money meant for her daughter's education. The man, however, took offense and threatened to leave if she didn't give him the money. At first, Mia thought he was being "dramatic," but was shocked when she saw him packing his clothes to leave the house. "...I’m standing in my kitchen, wondering how I somehow ended up choosing between my marriage and my child’s future because a grown man thinks he’s about to become a crypto genius overnight," she shared.

"Financial incompatibility," as seen between Mia and her current husband, often leads to relationship tension in couples, especially in America. In fact, a LendingTree survey found that almost one in four (23%) people have ended a relationship because of contrasting financial habits. Another 34% of respondents who were in a relationship as of February 2025 said they would break up in the future for the very same reason. Moreover, almost all respondents (98%) said financial compatibility is important to ensure a healthy relationship, and more than half (67%) said it's a "very" crucial factor. Notably, the survey observed that millennials (27%) and Gen Zers (25%) are more likely to fight with their partners over money than older generations.
Any grown adult promising to double money in one week is either being scammed or trying to scam somebody else. Protect that child’s future at all costs.

You have a secret gambling addict that is now deep into it. Escape or at least start ensuring you start separating assets or he’ll start pledging those. Been there.

Commenting on Mia’s post, @oyewaletolani reassured her that she did the right thing: "This is one of those situations where the answer has to be a firm no. That money has a clear purpose already. This isn’t just about money, it’s about trust and priorities. A child’s education fund shouldn’t be negotiable." @elioralux said, "This isn’t really about crypto. It’s about a man being willing to gamble your daughter’s future and then using the marriage as pressure when you said no. Protecting that money was the right decision."
