'I almost cried! I know that sounds silly, but it was nice!' the woman shared talking about how the kind stranger touched her heart.
In a world where we wake up to newspapers filled with negative news every day, kindness shines like precious gems. While we are surrounded by people who are madly driven by money and power, there are only a handful who choose selflessness over greed. A family from Michigan experienced something similar when a young man appeared on their doorstep, returning their lost cash-filled wallet. The incredible story was featured on WXYZ-TV Detroit's (@wxyztvdetroit) official YouTube channel, making netizens believe that kindness still exists.
When Michelle Johnson looked through her security camera, she saw a stranger standing on her front porch. Initially, she had no idea who the young man was and what he was doing at her residence until Johnson saw the man, Donnie Hanson, talking to the camera while holding a wallet. "And he had held up a wallet to our camera," she shared with the outlet. Later, Johnson realized that the man was at her residence to return her son's wallet. Interestingly, her son, working at the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, had made a whopping amount of nearly $100 in cash tips but then lost his cash-filled wallet.
"I was on 17th Street and saw it in the middle of the road, and all I was thinking was, 'Oh, someone had a great St. Patrick's Day.' I can’t believe this was just lying in the middle of the road. I just found the ID, and I was like, you know what, yup, gotta get this back," Hanson shared. Talking more about his gesture, the kind man mentioned that he had lost his wallet too many times and wished someone would have done him the same favor. Meanwhile, Johnson revealed that his son might have lost his wallet while rushing to meet his friends, but luckily, he got it back—all thanks to Hanson, a realtor by profession. "I almost cried! I know that sounds silly, but it was nice! Those small acts of kindness really make a difference in the world," she said while trying to hold back her tears.
The YouTube video received a wholesome response on social media, with people praising Hanson for his meaningful gesture. For instance, @daylehere commented, "That was not a 'small gesture.' That was a LARGE ethical gesture of kindness & truth. Thank you, Donnie Hanson, for demonstrating how we should ALL behave!" @stanford-nf4jk wrote, "I’m glad this turned out so well! When I was a kid in the 80s, my dad found a wallet. When the owner came over, he accused Dad of going through it. Well, he DID because he looked for a number to call since we didn’t have a car then and couldn’t drive it to the owner’s house. The owner felt bad about the accusation and offered a reward, but Dad declined and replied, 'I’m teaching my son to do this because it’s the RIGHT thing, not because it may net him a reward.' Dad wasn’t always the best father, but that moment has stayed with me!"
@kittysysagal1209 shared, "Much admiration and respect for that young man. He's a treasure. You could tell he came from a fine family. God bless!" Similarly, @iambellanicole said, "This is what people in the world should be doing instead of stirring up hate and division. Being an honest person takes you very far in life. We reap what we sow. Good or bad. Great job, young man!"
