A man’s search for the perfect car for his sister led to an emotional twist when he discovered a heartfelt note from its former owner inside.
A man went through a whirlwind of emotions while purchasing a second-hand Volkswagen Beetle for his sister. Little did he know that a surprise awaited him inside, making his buy truly special. The caring brother, who goes by u/MasterpieceHuge2794 on Reddit, recently shared how he came across a note from the vehicle’s previous owner. In a widely circulating post, the man revealed how he was left with some “bittersweet” memories after going through the heartfelt message passed on to him.
It all began when the man came across the VW Beetle, which was up for sale a couple of days before the post. It was the perfect find for his sister, and he made his move before anyone else could trade for the car. “I saw this car go up for sale a couple of days ago and bought it for my kid sister. The dealer told me it was traded in by an older [person] who was literally crying to see it go,” the man claimed, adding that the dealer was trying to hype him up.
“I thought he (the dealer) was gassing me up, but then we found this in the glove box. It's so bittersweet!” they continued, showing a red-colored paper with an emotional message on it. It was from the previous owner of the vehicle, known for its distinctive design. The owner poured their heart out on the piece of paper while describing their eventful journey with the car. “To the next lucky owner of this red VW Beetle: I've loved this car since I bought it in 2004,” they wrote, further adding that he hopex the new buyer enjoys riding it.
“(I) have taken very good care of it over these last 20-plus years. Together, we've driven all over the Twin Cities, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. It's been driven on city streets, county roads, interstate highways, and has taken many ferry rides," the note read. The previous owner went on to emphasize how parking the tiny compact vehicle anywhere was convenient for them. “In a landscape of increasingly large cars and trucks, this Beetle has popped into small parking spaces, zipped around tight corners, and wound through narrow streets.”
The previous owner, in their note, also stressed their unique color choice for the car. “Amongst many boring black-, grey, and white-colored vehicles, it always looked cheerful and festive,” they added. It also mentioned how the previous owner’s daughter had fun while learning to drive it. “My daughter learned to drive in this car. I've loved it to life and enjoyed every mile together. I hope you do too,” the note tucked in the glove box concluded. After taking the note online, the new owner later opened up in the comments section about the reason for buying a 20-year-old car.
“I bought the car for my sister because she is such a great kid. She helps with my kids and has been sharing a car with her partner and I wanted to help with that. This note had me choked up and I am happy you all enjoyed it too!” the man remarked, identifying himself as a 36-year-old who fixes and flips cars. Additionally, he claimed that the car had driven 141,000 miles and still looked clean, both inside and out. Among the various reactions his post received, u/Q8DD33C7J8 wished, “Awwww! That's just the best. I hope your sister enjoys the bug as much as they did.” “If there's a way you can send a note/letter back to those people, I bet it'd help them feel better knowing their beetle went to thoughtful people,” u/ wh4t_1s_a_s0u1 suggested.
