Her boyfriend had been planning the 'fake trip' for over half a year.
Many proposals today are planned with hidden cameras, friends in the background, or a photographer waiting in disguise. But one man took it further, using his filmmaking skills to craft an entire scene under the pretense of a film project, only to turn it into a real-life engagement surprise for his girlfriend. Adam Bloemer, videographer, shared the film on his Instagram @apblmr, where his girlfriend, Lucy, thought she was acting in a stylized short film. What she didn’t know was that every step, every shot, and every setup was leading to a question he’d been planning for over six months.
The clip opens with her entering a park, and on screen, a title appears, "Lucy thinks she is being filmed for one of my film productions..." As she continues toward the bench, a second message appears, "But in reality... she was walking into a surprise proposal. So I hope you enjoy." He named the film "Lucy's Surprise Engagement." The visual style is reminiscent of a Wes Anderson film with carefully centered frames, bright tones, and soft movement. Bloemer shares in the video text that they have been dating for over two years at this point. As the video moves with deliberate pacing, Lucy walks alone across a bridge, and at the bottom of the frame, a small caption appears, "I have had this fake trip planned for over half a year. :)"
In the final scenes, the backdrop shifts to a hilltop with Bloemer on one knee behind Lucy. As soon as Lucy turns to Bloemer, she excitedly runs into his arms and kisses him. On screen, white block letters declare, "I love you, Lucy," and moments later, "I can't wait to spend the rest of my life with you :)" The story behind the moment adds another beautiful layer to this fulfilling event. In the caption, Bloemer began his story with a simple note, "She said yes. :)," going on to explain that they met during a film shoot at the start of his junior year of college. That same day, he said, they fell for each other. "Since then, we’ve been inseparable. She’s been part of every big moment in my life, so it only made sense that this one would be just us, in our own little world," he wrote.
The proposal drew a lot of praise online, not just for the unique proposal style but for its sentiment and the love reflected by Bloemer for Lucy. @doritogirl69 wrote, "Oh my GOD. This is the best engagement I have ever seen." @nataliafha wrote, "The way you record her tells me everything I need to know about how much you love her. She looks gorgeous in every shot!" @sonbng commented, "You know you are a filmmaker when even the surprise proposal footage follows the rule of the third." @f4tes.wings said, "You could say this was Operation I Love Lucy." @jadefrihet added, "I love it when people pair passion with passion. If someone truly loves you, everything else they love seems to connect itself to you in their mind." @zbexx noted, "Move over Wes, this made me tear up more than any of your movies."
