When someone has a pet, they tend to love them more than anything. Their pets are no less than their babies to them and they love them as such. People name their fur babies all sorts of names, including but not limited to human names. In this story posted on Reddit by u/Fatal_Foxtrot, he wondered if he should have changed his dog's name.

The pet owner is a 36-year-old male who has a 6-year-old female dog. She is a Great Pyr/Australian Cattle Dog mix and her name is Charlotte. He lives in a lower-middle-class suburb in the United States. He has been living in his house with Charlotte for about a year. Now Charlotte goes out to do her business about six to seven times every day, so they obviously have a routine and way to do things now. Elaborating on the routine, he says, "I open the back door, Charlotte runs outside to pee and 'patrol' the yard (apparently it's a Pyr thing) and doesn't typically come bounding back to the door until I poke my head out and call her name."

A couple of weeks or so ago, the man had some new neighbors move in. However, he had no wish or intention of interacting with them in any way. However, something happened one day while he and his fur baby were at the last step of her potty ritual! Just as he stuck out his head and called out her name for her to come home, along with the sounds of his dog running home, he also heard another voice that yelled something along the lines of, "Why are you calling my daughter?" The man assumed that the voices were probably caused by a spat among the new neighbors, however, he was proven wrong just a few minutes later when he heard some heavy pounding at his door.

On opening his front door, he saw an angry man staring down at him. The angry man was about twice the size of the fur parent. The angry man then asked why the man was calling his daughter, to which the man replied, "Your daughter's name is Charlotte? Charlotte is my dog's name, dude." Hearing this, the angry man rolled his eyes and said that the fur dad better change his dog's name because the former was worried that his daughter would get confused and run into the man's house. So the pet owner said what any sane person would. He told the dad that that wasn't going to happen because not only did Charlotte get her name first, but they had also lived in the locality longer. He also added that he didn't like strangers making demands on him before even attempting to be polite. He then added for viewers to read, "What I didn't say but really wanted to say is that teaching his child stranger danger is his responsibility, not mine." When the angry man started calling the poster names and saying that a human child has priority over a dog for a name, the latter shut the door on his face and saw him through the peephole for a bit before walking back to his house.

The next time Charlotte needed to do her business, the man went with her into the yard. From there, he saw the angry man standing in his yard with his hands crossed and glaring eyes. This incident made the poster wonder if they were right or wrong and the comment section was more than helpful. u/Rough_Elk_3952C suggested, "Charlotte is my grandmother’s name, I would 100% name a daughter or a dog the name; and I 100% support your dog keeping her name and you keeping her safe. Please get security cameras and if necessary, a cease and desist order." u/SilliestSally82 joked and said, "NTA. Double down... Get another dog and name it his wife's name." All things said and done, people love their pets and can do whatever they need to improve their well-being.
