A husband’s video about cherishing the experience of growing old with his high school sweetheart left viewers emotional as he reflected on their life journey together.
Growing old with a loved one is the dream of every couple who ties the knot, hoping to achieve that shared future. However, not everyone can navigate the tumultuous journey of married life, which is often filled with both joyful and challenging phases. Kansas-based husband and wife Logan and Arielle Reynolds have shared their journey of staying together since high school. The duo, who run a podcast together (@the_rehumanist on Instagram), are setting serious couple goals by showcasing the love and respect they have for each other.
“Oh, to grow old beside someone else. That's the dream, right?” they captioned the widely circulated video, which starts with Logan and Arielle’s first date. It shows a picture taken outside Arielle’s family home as they played basketball together in the driveway. “I was pretty nervous because I was a sophomore and she was a senior. That's right; I was courting an older woman,” Logan told his 82.3k followers. He added that his soon-to-be partner already had her driver’s license at the time.
“What were the chances that she'd go for a guy like me?” Logan asked, acknowledging their initial mismatch in vibes. However, he admitted that he decided to stick around Arielle, playing guitar to capture her attention. And it worked; he somehow “tricked” his high school sweetheart into believing he was a worthy suitor. Looking back, the now-husband expressed disbelief at how she fell for it. “How long can I keep this up before she realizes that I have no idea what I’m doing?” Logan added, sparking laughter among the millions of viewers who have watched the couple’s special moments from their fourteen-year relationship.
After raising three kids together, Logan shared that Arielle hasn’t suspected anything about his “act” yet. “One night, not too long ago, we were both complaining about our sore backs, and I realized we’re getting old together. And it’s crazy because, like, that’s the whole point, isn’t it?” Logan's voice narrates, highlighting their sweetest life moments.
“It’s weird and beautiful to watch someone you’ve known since they were a teenager ease so gracefully into middle age. It’s also a bit terrifying because weren’t we just kids a few years ago? And now we’ve got kids of our own?” Logan elaborated. He raised another question, wondering if their kids realize that the couple made a pact to hang out with each other every day until one of them died. He described their relationship as still being those “nervous kids playing basketball in the driveway,” hoping that if they play their cards right, they might get to hold hands afterward.
Among the widespread reactions, @nans_la_resta jokingly wrote, “This is one of the best 'How I Met Your Mother' stories I've ever heard.” @ambershanawilliams shared, “I just told my husband yesterday that I’ve noticed we’re aging. Our hair is a little thinner, our faces a bit saggier. And I just stood there, thinking... this is the most beautiful thing in the world to witness.”
