Though hotels may have their safety protocols around safes, the man explained why it is better to avoid using hotel safes.
when one is out on a vacation or out traveling, one hopes to have a safe space to store valuables and other items. While hotel rooms provide safes for the same, they cannot be trusted. Umair Imtiaz shared an eye-opening video explaining why hotel safes aren't as reliable as one would think. He claimed that they can be easily tampered with no matter what kind of combinations one puts in. In his video, Imtiaz placed a few items into the hotel safe and shut the door. He added a new combination of his own to lock it up. “Never trust a hotel safe. You think by locking it with your made-up combination, it’ll be safe,” he remarked.
“It says closed,” Imtiaz read the dialog box on the safe. “Nobody knows your combination,” he said. However, the man revealed that there is a way people can get access to the safe without needing the code to begin with. “If you press the lock button twice, you’ll see the word ‘Super,’” he mentioned. He demonstrated the same as he explained. “All you have to do is hit zero six times and it will open up,” Imtiaz explained. Undoubtedly, when he tried the same, the safe did end up opening effortlessly. “That doesn’t seem very safe,” he concluded. People were baffled by the revelation Imitiaz shared.
Many people pointed out that the technique was created for hotel staff to open the safe if guests forget the code. However, it still makes it unsafe to have valuables inside. @joshlepage5 said, “Hotels need a way to reset the safe after guests.” @yaj.kitchen wrote, “No safes after this video.” A building engineer @roby____ shared a perspective saying, “There are only 4-5 people who know the master code and only 2-3 are on the property at the same time.” @just4_stephanie said, “Hotels need a master code because there are a high number of people who forget their code.”
@michaelrlindsay recalled, “That’s true, I left something in the safe when I checked out. Took them 10 seconds to open it back up.” People also pointed out that the trick suggested by Imtiaz may be secluded to one or certain hotels only. @natefairport revealed, “I tried this, but it didn’t work. I assume it was the master passcode created by the hotel management.” Others mentioned that having 0 as a code is quite common and could be the default code for several hotels. @sami.sama wrote, “I used to work at a hotel when I was 17. We all know about the zero code.”
Even though many pointed out reasons for the code being there, it was advised not to have valuables in safes. People tried sharing suggestions as to where valuables may be stored safely while traveling or staying in hotels. @serenosays suggested, “Lock valuables in suitcases. If the large suitcases are stolen they may be caught on camera in the theft area versus a small item that may be stolen and pocketed with no traces.” @umsultan1ss wrote, “No safe is safe unless it has fingerprint technology or face recognition.” @motlobene11 said, “Hotels can see if a safe has been opened by super code.”
