A man, who goes by @logfather1 on TikTok, lost a dedicated colleague at work and learned a hard-hitting truth about life. Well, he realized that the work we dedicate our lives to and the dreams we set aside for tomorrow can all vanish in an instant. And before anyone knows it, we're replaced without a second thought at work and almost everywhere else. His now-deleted video had received 483.2K views online.

The man started by informing the audience that one of his coworkers had passed away, and her desk was surprisingly cleared out by the end of the same week. His female colleague, who apparently saved a lot of her paid leave, thinking she would use it in the future, could, in fact, never utilize it. The man said that she had also saved a 401K plan that suddenly appeared to lose its meaning after her death. "A pension that she was trying to earn, that she'll never see a penny from," he added, reflecting upon how quickly everything changes in life. The fact that the woman worked all her life, saving up money, and the sick leaves she should have used in the future, turned meaningless in a second. "Here's your friendly reminder. Live life. Because one day it will be gone," the man said, urging people to make the most of their present and not let the weight of life overshadow its beauty.

Money is important, and to afford a decent lifestyle, you must work hard to achieve that. However, that should not be your endgame. Sadly, we don't realize that we're all running in a rat race, chasing a future that might not even exist. In fact, we are so obsessed with meeting professional expectations that we treat family like strangers and miss most opportunities to spend time with each other. In fact, nearly 32% of working Canadians (aged 15 to 74) reported that their work often interfered with their home and family life, according to Statistics Canada. Moreover, they found that almost two in five Canadians said that work-related obligations forced them to modify family activity plans. Now, @logfather1's coworker, who passed away, might have also missed countless important occasions to meet work expectations. She kept working every single day, often sacrificing her leaves, in hopes of a better future. But sadly, she couldn't live to enjoy the moments she had been dreaming about all her life.

Meanwhile, reacting to the man's advice, @coastdiy commented, "Both my parents died young—49 and 53. I'm now 53. I'm on borrowed time and quit my corporate job. I design craft kits in my recliner with my dogs." @swimnemoswim highlighted, "It's tough to find a balance between being responsible and setting yourself up for the future and enjoying the now because the future isn't promised."

@jessicanance377 commented, "I'm 66. Retiring and moving back to my hometown in January 2024 to be with my brother and sisters. Burning PTO like crazy!"  @ashes.remain4 shared, "Lost a coworker a few months ago. Still haunts me today, thinking of how dedicated they were to a job that would have replaced them in a heartbeat."
