He had a flat tire and 3 miles to go but this homeless man came to his aid and gave a priceless example of humanity.
Several stories about humanity touch our hearts. However, most of them revolve around people who have the resources to spare. We often see many sharing food, clothing and more because they have or can afford more. However, what happens when one has very few resources to spare? Do they still choose to give wholeheartedly? Do they try to empathize with the needs of others? One man named Jesse did exactly that when he chose to be kind and generous coming from a place of scarcity.
Twitter account @CallToActivism posted about a man called Jesse who went out of his way to help a passer-by, Tony Biggs. Briggs was headed home and came across Jesse who was a drifter. Jesse lived near a bridge nearby and didn’t have much except a bike, a few items in his bag and a bird. As Briggs was heading home on his bike, his tire got flat. That’s when Jesse came into the picture. The passer-by mentioned he had his headphones on and noticed that Jesse was trying to say something to him.
Biggs went on to explain, “At first I thought he was going to ask me for something so I popped my headphones out and asked him what he wanted. He then replied ‘I don’t want anything- but I’ve got a new tube in my bag and you can have it if you want!’ " The man was shocked at the thought that a drifter was offering something. What could he have? However, giving in to his insistence, Biggs went over where Jesse’s belongings were.
The man continued to explain that Jesse offered him the tube and the pump and even helped him change the tire. When asked how he could be paid back, Jesse said, “Don’t worry about it, this is what it’s all about!” The man had just a few things on him one of which was the tube and he freely gave it to Biggs. He went on to say, “The enormity of his situation and the fact that he went out of his way to help me was so humbling. To you and I, a bike tube would probably not mean much but to a guy with so little this item must hold enormous value!”
“This is Jesse, he is a drifter who lives near the bridge in my area. He owns nothing but a bike, a bird and a bag of about 10 items!

Yesterday, while I was riding my bike down around the beach – which is about 3 miles from my house – I got a flat tire. I had no choice but to… pic.twitter.com/ATg5cqddzH
Further on, the post mentioned that Biggs rewarded Jesse. He said, “Anyway I just wanted to show you a pic of Jesse with his new Versace lenses, fresh Sneakers, a full belly and a cold beer. Felt good to do something for him.” Biggs ended the post by saying, “Even though we sit around with all our materialistic needs and pass judgment, this dude has something that none of us can buy!”
More selfless than any elite. Wasn’t asking for nothing, just wanted to help. We need more Jesse’s in this world. Sometimes, we just need a reminder in being thankful, and humble. Not everyone is out there to do bad.

Imagine living a world where everyone would put others before themselves… it is a biblical principle that we can understand but we don’t do … the struggle is within each of us to varying degrees … I’m looking forward to a better world one day

Always take the opportunity to help someone. The good feeling you get is your reward.

The post became an eye-opener and many praised Jesse's selflessness. @JennyLuvsFitness said, “If only the world were full of these people.” @glass_it commented, “Good man. Self-reflection is part of becoming a better person. Seems like you’re well on your way.” Biggs explained that he always rode past Jesse but never thought of doing something for him. That’s very similar to our behavior toward those in need. We tend to turn a blind eye, sidelining humanity. And then there was Jesse, a humble man with nothing much who gave a message worth a million dollars with his actions.
