Sending a letter to a renowned individual and actually receiving a reply can feel like a once-in-a-lifetime experience. American businessman and animated television producer, Jeremy Padawer (@jeremypadawer), did it a thousand times. When he was in school, he wrote 1,000 letters to "the most remarkable, known people of the 20th century," asking them all the same question. Out of the thousand letters, he received 150 responses. One of the responses was from Fred M. Rogers, a.k.a. Mister Rogers. He shared the post on June 6, 2026, and it received 415 likes and 29 comments.

'Dear Jeremy Padawer...'

Padawer asked the recipients of his letter, "What has been your greatest accomplishment?" He explained in the caption that he wanted to understand what made "remarkable people" want to achieve things in life, and what they perceived as success. Rogers responded to Padawer's letter on August 8, 1992. He wrote, "Dear Jeremy Padawer, Greatest accomplishment? Well, personally, to recognize that all good gifts come from God, even the gift of recognizing that that is our greatest accomplishment!" Rogers added a postscript that read, "What an interesting project you've chosen for yourself! I wish you well in all that you do, Jeremy."

Who was Fred M. Rogers?

Fred McFeely Rogers was an American television personality, author, and Presbyterian minister. He was widely known by his professional name as Mister Rogers. He was the creator, the host, and the showrunner of the preschool TV series "Mister Rogers' Neighborhood." Aside from his popular role on TV, he also wrote children's books, songbooks, and "Mister Rogers" books for adults. He was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2002, a year before he passed on February 27, 2003, at the age of 74.

More celebrities who wrote back

Mister Rogers is not the only celebrity who regularly replies to letters from fans. A few other renowned individuals who have responded to their fans include Taylor Swift, Breaking Bad actor Jonathan Banks, John Legend, Tim Allen, and Miley Cyrus. One such example was Taylor Swift responding to a young fan after seeing a video of her asking her neighbor to play one of her songs. Not only did Swift write her a letter, but she also sent her a signed guitar with her face on it.
