The man saw a car that was about to get a parking ticket as the street was being cleaned. He knew he had to help the stranger.
Getting a parking ticket can be a huge hassle. They can burn a hole in your pocket and cause unnecessary delays. So, when Jay Hami—who goes by @j.hamii on TikTok—saw that the car parked in front was about to get a parking ticket, he came to a stranger's rescue. People were in awe with the man's act of kindness which led to the video receiving 98 million views and more than 11 million likes.
As the real estate photographer saw that the car was about to get a ticket, he ran across the street and called out, "Boss!" The officer asked, "Is this yours?" as he pointed towards the car. Hami affirmed that the car was his. "Just on time," the officer stated and started walking away. The man said a quick thank you as he stood beside the car waiting for the officer to leave the street. Eventually, he turned the camera towards himself and expressed, "Man, I got you."
The 27-year-old told Newsweek he was pleased with what he did and was glad he could help someone on his street. Hami captioned the video, "Saving a stranger from getting a parking ticket." He said, "I moved my car because of street sweeping at the time, and as I was walking back to my apartment, I saw the car that looked like it was about to get a ticket." The man added, "I knew it would affect the owner if they got one, so I rushed to the ticket officer and told him that it was my car, and he moved on to the next cars."
The car had to be moved for the street to get cleaned. If someone doesn't move their car on time, they can get a parking ticket ranging from $40 to $65 as per the outlet. The creator shared that he didn't know the car's owner personally but he knew that it was someone who lived on his street. After the video received an overwhelming response from people Hami decided to go check on the car again in another video. He saw that the car was still at the same spot and noticed that it had a missing tire. So, he left his number on the hood of the car for the owner as he wanted to help him out.
Hami ended up meeting the owner of the car in yet another video. The owner saw the popular video of the man saving his car from getting a parking ticket and there was a big smile on his face as he saw it. He also ended up giving the owner $300 to help him out with the tire. The owner shook his hand and said, "That is very much appreciated. Anytime you see me, you might need me, bro I got that little spare time, you got it."
People took to the comments section of the video to appreciate Hami's gesture. @lilpurplepossum commented, "These feel genuinely not staged. Actual hope for humanity. Homie looks like he's had a hard time his whole life, he definitely deserves this." @_juan_carlos7 wrote, "Love this man, I can just imagine how good that made you feel. It literally costs nothing to be human and doing so comes with that wholesome feeling/happiness." @ambabambam remarked, "Bro you are so kind! Saving him from that ticket and helping him out with his tire."
