He was proud of his little girl and did not regret the sacrifice he made

A parent's sacrifice may not always make sense to everyone, but it always comes from a place of love. A man who goes by @ok6ixx on X (formerly Twitter) heard a story about such a sacrifice while sitting in a taxi in Hiroshima, Japan. He had a conversation with the driver who left his high-paying job as an engineer to become a taxi driver. During the ride, the driver revealed the true reason why he gave up his career and pointed to a photo of a young woman attached to his dashboard. The X post from May 13, 2026, has gotten 46,900 views, 2,000 likes, and 222 reshares since.

We drove in silence for a bit. Then I asked "is that your daughter?"
He said "yes. She graduated university last year. Mechanical engineering. Very smart."
I said…
The girl in the photo was wearing her graduation gown, and the curious author asked if she was the driver's daughter. He confirmed it and told the author that she recently graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was proud of his little girl, and she was the reason he was a taxi driver. Unsure of what he meant, the author questioned him further.
The driver revealed, "I used to be an engineer. Good job, good money. But very busy. Many nights I work late, weekends I work. I miss her childhood." Even though he was earning well, one thing his daughter said to him made him change his career. The driver recalled, "She said, 'I remember mom reading to me. I remember grandma cooking. I don't remember you.' That hurt very much."

Her innocent words made him realize his priorities, and he chose to become a taxi driver. It allowed him to dictate his own working hours, which in turn allowed him to dedicate most of his time to his daughter. Ever since he quit his engineering job, he was home when she came back from school, cooked meals for her, and helped with her homework. His wife and family thought he was crazy for leaving a stable job, but he understood the sacrifice he had to make for his daughter.
Now, they are closer than ever. They call each other every week, updating each other about their lives. The author asked if he regretted his choice, to which he replied, "Regret? No. Money comes and goes. Time only goes. I chose time. That was the right choice."

Being a parent is already a tough job, but being a working parent comes with additional difficulties. Recent research from the Modern Family Index (MFI) showed that a significant number (79%) of working parents felt they had to choose between their jobs and families. 80% expressed that the workforce remains outdated because it has not made any adjustments to support the modern requirements of working parents. This was the same reason the taxi driver had to quit his engineering job. There was no work-life balance that would allow him to spend time at home and work equally.
That's a magnificent share and the gentleman in the story completely nailed it, no amount of money can ever give us back our time ❤️

People in the comments appreciated the father's sacrifice for his daughter. @morenikeji_48 commented, "This is so touching." However, @SaintRuckus questioned how the daughter manages to have time for her family. They wrote, "So how does she make time for her family doing the same engineering job?"
