Inflation is affecting a lot of people. With the prices of goods and services, including food, gasoline, housing and healthcare, all rising at a worrying pace, it has made lives difficult for many people. This also means that the purchasing power of the average American is becoming next to nothing. A man—who goes by @sidemoneytom on TikTok—recently shared an insightful video where he revealed just how much prices were increasing at the Costco where he shops.

He begins the video by stating that he couldn't believe the level of inflation on some of these items. To substantiate his point, the creator compares the prices of different items he used to buy at the store for lower rates. He showcases chicken breasts and says, "I used to buy these exact chicken breasts right for $6.99. Now they're $12.99." The next item that he observed a drastic price increase was canola oil.

He talks about how the oil was now $7.99 and it used to be $7.79. Not a drastic price increase, but it was indicative of a worrying trend. The next item he covers is a pack of bacon which used to be sold for $8.99 two years back. It now had a price of $16.49, which is approximately double the previous rate. He moves on to covering a pack of potatoes which used to be a very good deal when they were $4.79 and $5.99.

Now, because of inflation, they were $8.99 and the man can be heard saying that he would rather go for normal potatoes. The man then shows viewers the mayonnaise and says, "Last time I bought this mayonnaise here, it was $4.99. Now it's $9.99." He remarks how the price has doubled. The last product he covers is a packet of two Nutella bottles that he used to get for $10.99 which had increased to $14.69.

Seeing the price of Nutella, the man remarks how he was just going to use peanut butter as a substitute. People on the platform could relate to what the man was experiencing and shared their thoughts in the comments section.@jackie0232 said, "It's so crazy. I live in a tourist area and I don't see people slowing down on spending. I don't get how people can vacation still!"

@luvvsnugglebug pointed out, "And Costco is still a better deal than the grocery store." It was only a few days back that Uzo—who goes by @uzoiswho on TikTok—shared his concerns about the absurd increase in the cost of living. He rants about the alarmingly increasing costs of goods and services in his short video which has become viral. Uzo says, "I do not need to budget. Prices either need to go down or my pay needs to go up."

He continues, "I think I'm someone who's fairly reasonable with my spending. I pay my bills, I take care of my needs first and foremost and I take care of my wants within a reasonable parameter. I don’t spend exorbitant amounts of money to the point where I need to track down how much I’m spending because money’s just flying out of my ears." Uzo concluded his video by saying how "things simply cost too much these days."
