People might have seen little Kevin thwart the attempts of home invaders in this iconic film but the audience might have missed this interesting detail.
It's almost Christmas and it means spending a whole lot of good times with your family and tuning into old classic Christmas movies like 1990's hit "Home Alone." Many of us have seen that film which shot former child actor Macaulay Culkin to superstardom. As the story follows Culkin's character Kevin warding off home invaders with expertise as his family forgets about him while going for a vacation, many people had a bunch of theories over the years on how Kevin was so skilled at battling criminals at that age. One of the recent crazy theories is presented by creator Brian Rooney, @roon_tang on TikTok.
Rooney refers to a meme from the internet that talks about the original "Home Alone" film and it points out the viewers getting older and wondering what exactly the protagonist Kevin Mcallister's dad did to afford their lavish house and take his 9 family members to a vacation in Paris during peak season. "This is a fan theory you can look up on the internet," Rooney says while showing a screenshot of a fan theory website in the backdrop of his video. "This theory says that Kevin's dad, Peter McAllister was a mob boss."
Now that might sound ridiculous to a lot of folks because the film never dropped a hint about Kevin's dad being a boss of some criminal syndicate to afford the house and vacation but fans weren't about to rest with their wild claims and theories. "This goes into crazy details like Harry and Marv were from a rival family and they were seeking revenge which is why they were hitting up the block," Rooney says about the two con men who serve as the antagonists in the film.
"I think it makes sense," Rooney quips and then jokes about how actor Joe Pesci always takes up mob-related roles so there is a possibility that he was playing a gangster in "Home Alone" too. "I think the whole theory of Kevin’s dad being a mobster makes total sense just based on Kevin’s behavior. He was a straight-up gangster. When Kevin found out that Harry and Marv were going to rob his house, it didn’t even occur to him to ever call the police."
"Kevin stuck to the G code of, ‘This is my house. I have to defend it.’ That’s the most gangster thing ever," Rooney continues. "In the end, when the thugs got arrested, he didn’t talk to the police at all. He didn’t give them a statement. He just kept his mouth shut. That’s some G code stuff that he would have had to learn from his mob boss dad. Y’all better recognize Kevin McCallister was a stone-cold thug," Rooney concludes dramatically.
Surprisingly enough, the TikTok crowd was invested in this theory too as some pointed out an obvious thing other casual viewers missed. @tomisha_c remarked, "Kevin's dad didn't pay for the trip, his brother in Paris did. People tend to miss that line of dialogue because it was kinda in the background." @lilienstay wrote, "You got on Google with this video because everyone is solving the fact that we are dealing with the mystery of the movie, your video is a sample."
@atomsk484 quipped, "Kevin recognizes Harry when he's walking home from the store as the cop from the beginning and that's why he didn't trust the cops." @bmc_cville added, "The fake shootout that scares off the pizza boy confirms the theory. Why wasn’t the swat team surrounding that house 15 minutes after that?" Well, the conspiracy theories behind this movie might keep piling up but Culkin has moved on toward a quieter life compared to his star-studded past.
According to PEOPLE, the now 42-year-old Culkin received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on December 1, 2023, where he was accompanied by his fiancée Brenda Song, 34, and their two kids along with Catherine O'Hara, who played Culkin's mom in "Home Alone." Culkin gave a shout-out to his fianceé and their two boys during his acceptance speech, thanking them for their support. "I'd like to thank Brenda. You're absolutely everything," he said. "You're the best person I've ever known and after the birth of our two boys, you've become one of my three favorite people."
