The man's touching tribute to his cat made a lot of people teary-eyed on the internet.
Recreating old photos is one of the best ways to revive cherished memories. This simple act often yields powerful emotional results. Reddit user u/TrevorIsTheGOAT shared a bittersweet post in which he recreated a childhood photo with his beloved cat. The post garnered 124K upvotes and 1.9K comments.
The heart-melting post has two side-by-side photos. On the left, we can see the man and his cat when they are both very young. He is seen wearing an orange shirt, and his cat, Gandalf, is staring into the camera with his fur colored white and light brown. On the right side, we can see the man in his current state, lovingly holding his cat, who has clearly aged quite a bit. Gandalf's fur is much more frayed and he looks quite tired.
In the caption, he shared that he had to put down his cat that day and recreated a 20-year-old photo as a final tribute. He wrote, "I will always love you, Gandalf." The post moved many viewers, with u/wannabe_inuit commenting, "Only cats with good lives get to live this long. (...) And he shall wait at the white shores for his friend."
Many people loved the cat's name, and the man clarified in the comments section, "He actually came with a brother, and we named him Mordor, lol. We bought them together from a bordering state. I don't know why my parents decided 9-year-old me needed a purebred ragdoll, haha, but that's what he is. Mordor tragically got cancer at only 3 years old and had to be put to sleep. Gannie has lived enough for them both now." u/steveblobby pointed out, "Heartbroken for you. People who don't have cats think they are selfish and aloof creatures; those of us who do, realize their love and trust is hard-won and absolute when they give it."
People sometimes prefer adding a twist when recreating old photos to make it more fun. Rosie Joyce gained popularity for recreating photos of her parents swapping outfits on their wedding day with her own husband. The woman posted a video on TikTok with the caption, "I grew up obsessed with these photos! How did we do? My poor dress." She wrote in the text overlay, "I grew up obsessed with these photos! How did we do? We wanted to recreate the photos and surprise everyone on our recovery day. They (parents) were so proud." The video essentially features all of the photos of her parents swapping outfits, accompanied by pictures of Rosie and her husband doing the same thing.
