“I donated my kidney to a stranger in January. He sent me a letter in April,” the man said in the caption of his post. He attached an image of the letter revealing the rough handwriting and the profound words the person penned. The man introduced himself in the letter and then mentioned he had a 6-year-old son. The man further wrote that his wife had passed away after losing her battle with cancer and he was the child's primary caregiver.

“When S. was 6 years old his mother passed away after battling cancer for 5 years. This has put me and my son very close,” the note read. He mentioned that he remarried, now living a simple life on a small town farm. He also shared that he is a proud grandfather to three grandsons. “My son and my 3 grandsons are my life, I do not do anything without one of the 4,” the man remarked. Making the next phrase his mode of gratitude, the man wrote, “Because of the gift you gave me on Jan 5th, 2017 I think I will get to see more basketball games, more baseball games and more football games.”

He added, “I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart, because of you I am going to have a better and longer life.” The heartfelt letter moved many to tears, including the donor himself. In a comment, along with a transcript of the letter, the donor wrote, “I hope his letter encourages you all to be donors when you die, and some of you to be living donors. Too many people lose loved ones too early.” With over 1k comments, people chimed in with applause for the donor and best wishes for both men. Others were bawling over the contents of the note.

u/Primus07788 said, “I received a bone transplant to fix my knee. I am having the hardest time writing a letter to the donor's family because I honestly don't know how to put into words how grateful I am. Good on you for being a donor. Restoring faith in humanity one body bit at a time!” u/Gearbrain wrote, "Every day the transplant recipient wakes up is a day he would not otherwise have. He gets to continue to exist. He gets another sunrise, another beautiful day, another rainstorm, another chance to watch his grandsons grow."
