The celebrity members of Peking Duk were told their step-brother was coming to see them

The majority of fans would settle for concert tickets and backstage passes to see their favorite band or artist. However, Australian man David Spargo dared to go a little further. On December 3, 2015, Peking Duk, his favorite band, was touring in Melbourne, and he wanted to see Adam Hyde and Reuben Styles in person. Instead of getting backstage passes, he added himself as a "family member" on the band's Wikipedia page, as per BBC News. Surprisingly, security let him through, and he walked straight into the band's green room.

The members of Peking Duk were extremely impressed by Spargo's spontaneous idea to meet them. He said he came up with the idea "on the spot," making the edits on their Wikipedia page. He added his name to the introductory paragraph at the end, writing "Family David Spargo." He lied to the guard, saying he was their step-brother and used the Wiki page and ID as his "proof."
After going through security, he did not even bother to hide but walked confidently to them. Hyde explained their side of the story, "One of the promoters got a call from security telling her that our step-brother was coming backstage. We were confused and intrigued as we saw a young lad walking up to the green room. He then explained to us his amazing tactic to get past security to hang with us, and we immediately cracked him a beer. This dude is the definition of a legend."
"He had good vibes. He wasn't creepy at all and was actually more relaxed and cool than we would have expected from someone who went to such lengths to get to our green room. I've never heard of such skills. We tip our hats to the dude," the band members told the outlet. The band even posted this incident on X (formerly Twitter). Spargo told The Guardian how he felt while waiting outside the green room, "I stood out there for five minutes, and I started to think this isn’t going to work. Then Reuben pops his head out and is like, 'Hey bro, come on in.'"
Wikipedia is one of the largest digital encyclopedias in the world. It is almost always one of the top sources mentioned on Google whenever scouring the internet for any information. Two main reasons for its popularity are that it has no advertisements and it is completely free. Pew Research Center revealed that there are more than 66 million articles on the website by December 2025. Over the last 10 years, the articles on the website have been viewed at least 1.9 trillion times in total. This comes down to an average of 508 million views each day.

Now, David Spargo's name has been removed from Peking Duk's Wikipedia page. Right after the incident, someone added the word "legend" next to his name in recognition of Adam Hyde's comment. Before leaving, Hyde and Styles took Spargo's phone number, as per The Guardian. They ended the interview with, "We might end up having a couple of beers with him. I’ve got to tip my hat to that guy’s kahunas. He’s probably still drinking, the dirty dog. That, or trying to infiltrate someone else’s green room."
