48-year-old man 'jokes' about women always chasing his money. His date simply pulled up her payslip and left him red-faced

Money can never be a substitute for personality, no matter how wealthy one is. Author and podcaster Lyz Lenz (@lyzlenz) took to Instagram on March 11 to share the story of a first date that went wrong. She captioned the clip, "This is going to make the commenters mad, and I cannot wait."

Lenz began by stating her "first mistake," that is, going on a date with a man who was a lawyer, years ago. Her date told her about how women in the past had dated him for his money. Lenz did not find the "joke" amusing because she knew how much her date earned, and this 'gold digger' narrative was getting a bit old. Lyz Lenz's storytime video has gained 251k views and is growing, 20.9k likes, and more than 900 mixed comments.

Lenz explained to her followers how she found out about her date's salary. She said, "This man was a government employee and his salary was publicly listed, which I already knew because I had done recon before the date because I'm not an idiot." Lyz wanted to assure the 48-year-old man that she was not a gold digger and put him in his place at the same time.

She responded with, "Well, I'm not gonna date you for your money because I make more money than you." She added, "And when I tell you, this man's flabbers were gasted."

At the time, Lyz was 41, and her date knew about her age. He was not happy with how she responded to his "joke" and doubled down. The man began to complain about how Lenz was too old for him, and that he was actually looking for someone younger, someone he could "have children with."

Even though there was no second date, Lyz said that she still thinks of this man time and again, whenever she sees men "posting about how women only want them for their money." She ends the video by asking a rhetorical question, "Did they have anything else to offer?"

Finding someone with whom you can hit it off immediately might not be easy for everyone. A random double-opt-in survey was done on 2,000 single Americans (who are dating and/or looking for a partner). The survey was commissioned by Avocado Green Mattress and conducted by OnePoll. The results revealed, "the average respondent knows whether or not they’d like to see someone again at the 19-minute mark of their first date."

Another survey conducted by Talker Research revealed the dating expectations of 2,000 singles or casual daters. It showed, "42% of Baby Boomers and 45% of Gen X still abide by tradition and believe the man should pay for a date."

She already knew that the people in the comment section would have a field day expressing their thoughts and opinions. But some comments commended Lenz for her response. @missdrechtdid said, "Men make money to be WITH women while women make money to be WITHOUT men... make those men even LONELIER, ladies."

@hervibesdontlie said, "He doesn't want a younger woman, he wants a woman he thinks is beneath him. Someone who will be impressed with how little he's bringing to the table and won't notice his bare minimum contribution."
