Man in a ‘Chucky’ mask chased Philadelphia passersby until one woman turned around and said, 'OK, let’s fight'

With the era of content creation, several people are bringing back public pranks. But the question is, how far is too far? On August 12, 22-year-old Zymire Hughes wore a "Chucky/baby doll Halloween" mask and ran behind people in Philadelphia's City Hall, trying to scare them. As per ABC News' August 21, 2026 report, he antagonized both men and women, including employees in the area. People were visibly scared of the masked individual until he came face-to-face with Jameka Wilson. The video has received 1.8 million views, 27,000 likes, and 8,012 comments so far.
'It didn't seem like he had a clear goal'
Wilson, who was one of the victims Hughes tried to scare, spoke to ABC 7 to reveal her interaction with him. Initially, Hughes had his eyes on a different victim, a runner with headphones on. When Wilson noticed him running after her, she waved, trying to get the runner's attention. Hughes then shifted his focus to Wilson, his (approximately) 16th target of the night.
'He didn't have the training or the full audacity'
She said, "He just seemed so disoriented about what his goals actually were. Like, I had bags. He wasn't reaching for those. It didn't seem like he had a clear goal to do anything. So I was like, 'Okay, well, let's see if you can fight it,' and he couldn't." Right after she kicked him in the chest, Wilson told Oxygen.com, "He seemed immediately confused. I don’t think he was expecting that behavior... I feel like he had the intent to harm, but he didn't have the training or the full audacity, honestly."
Five possible charges
Hughes is currently on the run from the police. However, during his almost 20-minute terror spree, Hughes managed to scare off at least 15 to 16 people. One of them was a female runner jogging around 5:30 a.m. in City Hall. Jason Smith, the Philadelphia Police Captain, told the news outlet that Hughes was holding a phone in front of him. It looked like he was recording the entire "interaction," attempting to scare the woman. He allegedly asked her as he got closer, "Are you ready to d*e?" Hughes will potentially face charges including harassment, simple assault, intimidation, terr*ristic threats, and reckless endangerment, according to Captain Smith.
Violence for violence
The majority (83%) of Americans do not get into physical fights, as per a 2026 YouGov poll. However, there are instances where they believe physical violence is acceptable. In a 2014 survey, 86% of Americans believe that physical violence is permitted if the person is defending themselves from a violent attacker. In Wilson's case, she was face-to-face with Hughes, who had been terrorizing people, so violence seemed like the only viable option for her.
'Jameka was the final level, end boss'
Netizens have only praise for Wilson's courageous attempt to fight off Hughes. @hotfootrabbit wrote, "Imagine trying to be a mean, scary bad guy and home girl drops in like the Power Rangers with a kick chest to the chest. Wah Pow!" @R-L-I chimed in, "Man met his match. Jameka was the final level, end boss, and he couldn’t handle it."
