The resident let Mother Nature handle the revenge — and their neighbor didn't see it coming

Revenge doesn’t always have to be physical — sometimes, the best way to get back at your enemy is by attacking their prized possession. Similarly, a Reddit post by a deleted account recalled a long-running feud with their neighbor that initially ended with a lawsuit. The problematic neighbor dragged the author to court, claiming vet charges, but eventually lost. Since then, he has gone overboard trying to harass the author's family in different ways. For the longest time, the author ignored the neighbor, but when things got out of control, they finally pulled a revenge plan that began at 3 a.m. one night and lasted for four days. The story, posted on June 5, 2017, has received 13,000 upvotes on Reddit.
It all began after the neighbor's dog ran into the author's yard and got attacked by their dog. The man next door demanded that the author pay the vet bill, but they refused, since it was not their fault. However, being the bigger person, the author offered to pay half of it, but the neighbor declined and dragged them to court. But to his dismay, the judge favored the author, leaving him humiliated.

After the man lost, he began acting extremely petty and even tried to get the author's 10-year-old son arrested for riding a minibike. Tired of him, the author filed a restraining order but later dropped the case after the neighbor's lawyer assured them he wouldn't cause them trouble.
Things between the two settled a bit after that, but the author always felt an itch for revenge. Then, while at a hardware store, they noticed Japanese beetle traps. They knew the insects were attracted to roses — and that their neighbor loved his huge rose garden. "So I bought 4 packages of the refill packs. The scent pack is a waxy substance in a shallow plastic cup. I put the packs in the freezer overnight to allow me to pull the wax out easily," the author recalled. At around 3 a.m., they snuck to the neighbor's house and mixed the frozen wax scents with the mulch under the rose bushes.

The next day was extremely hot; the wax began to melt, and a few beetles started arriving. By evening, a swarm of them had been munching on the roses, but the neighbor still hadn't spotted them. On the second day, "there was a freaking cloud of them." There had to be hundreds, if not thousands," the author recalled. The neighbor finally noticed it and was battling the bugs with pesticides and Sevin powder. "By the end of the 4th day, there was nothing left of his rose garden, other than a few tattered leaves and thorny stalks," they reminisced.
Just like you can't choose your family, most of the time, you can't choose your neighbors either. A 2022 survey (of more than 2,000 Americans) by Offerpad revealed that 60% of Americans had a feud with a neighbor at least once. Out of these, only 20% reported having an active beef with their neighbors. Some of the main reasons for their disputes include disagreements about the yard or home exteriors (45%), sports or political signs, and social media posts (28%). While the author and their neighbor's dispute began because of their dogs, over time, it turned into something else.

Meanwhile, the comment section was flooded with people with similar stories, and netizens congratulated the author on their genius plan. u/DedalusStew commented, "I'd never suspect a neighbor would f*ck with me by unleashing nature upon me. That's brilliant. Maybe there is no such thing as karma, just a bunch of people getting revenge without you knowing and when you don't expect it." u/AnyUntakenName wrote, "And the OP said, 'Let this b*llsh*t go.' The neighbor did not let the b*llsh*t go, and thus, OP sent a plague of beetles upon his garden -ProRevenge 6.5." u/goblingimp69 said, "If this catches on, then I think people will be calling for this to be classified as 'biological terrorism.'"
